Sales Associate/Cat Caretaker

The Charming Cat Corner (TC3) is a nontraditional business. Our focus is cats. Everything we do is relevant for cat care, cat play, cat napping, cat health, and cat adoptions. Our mission is to be a positive force for inspiring and nurturing affection for animals, one kitty at a time. We seek someone who has a love for cats, especially someone who has experience in a shelter, boarding, or rescue environment. You will be providing care and working with a team to make sure our cats find loving homes. We are creative, collaborative, innovative, and our goal is to provide a safe, friendly place where people can engage with cats. When we are fully engaged with our mission, we connect with our visitors and uplift their lives even if just for a little while with the magic of cats.

Why not work here? Answer: The team is small with little room for discord or drama. The owner is rarely on site and allows the team the autonomy to work out issues and reach goals, but will step in when objectives are floundering and team members report ongoing problems that require resolution. The business is so small that traditional benefits cannot be provided.

We are currently adding a Sales Associate/Cat Caretaker to our team to tend to cats, engage with visitors, and help ensure the safety of all. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Tending to the duties of the reception front desk, sales floor, cat rooms

• Walking through our visitor areas to monitor activities and answer questions

• Greeting and engaging visitors, guiding them through our environment and our rules

• Posting lots of pictures of cats on social media

• "Reading" a cat and steering it away from mischief

• Maintaining a clean, safe environment for both cats and visitors

• Working weekends

• Cleaning up after ungrateful cats

• Scooping boxes, a challenge when some cats compete to be the first one back into it

• Wrangling cats

• Learning what you don't know really well, then applying it

• Climbing and bending, even crawling

• Lifting at least 40 pounds and carrying it

• Moving furniture, some of it heavy

• Using disinfectants, sanitizers, and cleaners

• Running loads of laundry

• Cleaning and steaming floors

• Serving as an impromptu, improvised cat tree

• Reporting issues

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Experience in retail, customer service, cat care, plus related fields

• A strong attention to detail

• A strong sense of teamwork and cohesion

• A goal-oriented approach to responsibilities

• Positive customer service skills

• Time management skills

• Productive skills in outwitting a cat

• Ability to convince a cat that going into a carrier will be fun

• Excellent listening and communication skills

• Ability to perform tasks you don't think matter even though they really do

This position requires more than the personal experience of owning a cat; we are a cattery housing dozens of cats with various notions of cooperation with one another and with humans. This position requires positive customer engagement and safe cat wrangling.
