The Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) Specialist will be based in The Woodlands, TX office or any other Helium location within the USA. This position reports to the Associate Director of SHEQ for the Global Helium & Rare Gases Business.
The successful candidate in this role will engage plant technicians, product vehicle drivers and location management to ensure safe work practices are being followed. The candidate must be able to identify and correct potential safety and health hazards and implement safe and environmentally compliant work practices with plant personnel, drivers, and contractors. Responsible to track, audit and verify standard work process compliance through inspections, employee interaction, and presence in the field. This position will be a leader to assure compliance with organizational SH&E policy, as well as government safety, health, and environmental standards.
This mid-level professional position applies technical safety and environmental knowledge in all business areas at the assigned locations - personnel safety, process safety, fleet safety and environmental - in order to protect the health and safety of all company employees, as well as the surrounding communities and environments in which the company operates. Candidate must provide leadership, guidance, and assistance in the prevention/control of accidents and incidents to a specific area of responsibility.
This position operates in both office and field environments and requires 50% travel with some overnight stays. The ideal candidate for this position must be a leader, a self-starter, and a self-motivated individual. This is not a consultant position. The candidate must be able to identify improvement opportunities and proactively implement corrective actions. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and work with all levels of management.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a working partnership with employees at assigned locations that will promote a strong safety culture to insure worker health and safety.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety trends based on performance and take proactive actions to implement corrective actions.
- Support all accident/incident investigation, reporting, and facilitation of Root Cause Analysis.
- Manage safety training programs and lead required training courses at assigned locations. This includes leading monthly safety meetings in compliance with internal standards.
- Regular review of compliance management systems and completion of compliance tasks on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Assist assigned locations regarding environmental permit compliance and developing environmental and safety compliance management tools.
- Monitor local OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements and standards along with company standards to ensure compliance. Assist assigned locations in maintaining required documentation to comply with internal and external standards including OSHA PSM/RMP.
- Help implement company harmonized standard and directives.
- Lead internal assessment at required sites as per the business unit's assessment program.
- Perform industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Work closely with Plant managers to achieve safety and environmental compliance.
- Assist assigned locations regarding environmental permit compliance.
- 5 years of safety, operations, or other experience in industrial environment.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Strong presentation and training skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team for common goals. Must have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of plant employees and management.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification or willing to complete within 3 years.
- Ability to travel (at least 50%)
