Job Responsibilities/Duties
The Safety Specialist, under general supervision, will lead and champion various safety programs, employee outreach activities, and safety initiates. This position will be required to interface and coordinate with other work groups and departments to encourage participation in the Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) safety programs. The successful candidate should understand and be able to speak to the 5 tenants of VPP, able to identify the needs of the culture and develop initiatives to drive employee participation to strengthen the gaps in the culture
The Safety Specialist duties will include but are not limited to the following activities:
Act as point of contact/coordinator to provide regular and consistent feedback to management and the workforce in safety functional and programmatic areas.
Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics, prepare policies, procedures, reports, assessments, and oversee the implementation of safety related promotional materials including printed and digital media.
Serve as the workforce information point of contact, as appropriate, for the organization, and maintains intra-company safety communications including digital information.
Manage the site/safety department programs by developing and ensuring proper tracking, posting, and completion for the following activities:
  • Employee Accident Prevention Council (EAPC)
  • Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
  • Safety training and initiatives
  • Manage the Safety recognition budget and purchasing of awards
  • Safety award accountability, tracking participation and awards
  • Company level performance indicators
  • Evaluate data and trends identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Records Management and Document Control

Required Qualifications
Grade 17
BA/BS degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related science and a minimum of Five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Grade 18
BA/BS degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related science and a minimum of Seven (7) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade19
BA/BS degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related science and a minimum of Nine (9) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications
-Ability to work in a fast pace and demanding atmosphere.
  • Ability to lead others in a team oriented and collaborative manner on special projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and both verbal and written.
  • Understands and applies Safety and Health theories, concepts; working knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Experience with application of Safety tasks in a nuclear environment.
  • Nationally recognized certification (CIH, CSP, CHP, CHST, OHST).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Grade 17:
Hiring Range Minimum: $94,650
Hiring Range Maximum: $119,250
Grade 18:
Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175
Hiring Range Maximum: $131,425
Grade 19:
Hiring Range Minimum: $114,475
Hiring Range Maximum: $144,325

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
