Pay Range: $16.13-$23.25 per hour
Position Summary
Safety & Security Officers provide the highest quality of public safety to protect life and property. Officers support Mercy's mission by fostering a safe environment. Officers perform security services, including electronic surveillance, and patrol of the Mercy campus. Enforce policy & procedures and coordinate Mercy's response to various potential problems and emergencies for patients, employees, and visitors, Working with the Environment of Care committee, help establish a safe environment of care to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to security and safety. Participates in employee awareness and education.
Job Duties
Conducts investigations of incidents. Prepares clear and accurate reports.
Enforces hospital regulations, guidelines and policies as needed.
Responds to routine and emergency calls for service.
Patrol areas as assigned to ensure personal, building and equipment security.
Performs inspections as assigned. These inspections may include fire extinguishers, emergency lights, exit light, sprinkler flow and tampers, conducting of fire drills and hazard surveillance.
Prepares daily reports of shift activity. Provides written communication as needed to other safety & Security Officers.
Provides emergency response as requested or needed. Emergency response may include disasters, fire, tornado, duress alarms, hazardous materials decontamination, infant abductions, bomb threat, non-violent crisis intervention, aggressive patients, guests, or visitors.
Provides information and assistance to patients, visitors, and employees.
Provides escort service, lockouts, jump starts as requested.
Provides traffic control and enforcement measures on all Mercy owned or operated property.
Receives property found in hospital, inventories, and properly enters into lost and found system.
Transfers deposits between the hospital and financial institutions to maintain security of funds.
Basic understanding of key management programming.
Qualifications
High School diploma is required, Associates degree preferred or equivalent.
Must be able to see color spectrum, read, write, and speak fluent English is required.
Able to make critical decision under high stress situation is required.
Valid Iowa Drivers License is required.
Certification in non-violent crisis intervention and BCLS with in one year of employment.
Computer experience is preferred.
