Summary:
The main function of a Safety Representative is to support plant managers in the achievement of specific plant safety goals and objectives. A typical Safety Representative is responsible for coordinating safety and environmental compliance activities, assisting plant leadership in conducting safety and environmental training, and performing routine plant inspections to reduce injury risks.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with a joint (UAW-represented) partner to design-in safety for a new engine program.
- Support maintenance of a safe work environment for launch team, support resources, and contractors during project implementation.
- Actively participate in G-Risk (task-based risk analysis) Process for all new equipment.
- Lead the execution of G-Comply (machine / station design review and approval) Process to ensure equipment readiness for safe production.
- Organize/coordinate reviews and approvals with joint partner. Maintain calendar and schedule to achieve goals.
- Maintain and drive completion of open issues.
- Provide safety leadership to layout approval process.
- Participate in safety-related plant activities: Plant Safety Review Board (PSRB), Pedestrian/In-Plant Vehicle Committee (PIV), Safety Observation Tours/Safety Conversation Tours (SOT/SCT), Safety Contract Management review, and Launch Wall reviews.
- Utilize Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process to develop and drive methods to achieve Zero Injuries.
- Work with plant resources, Central Manufacturing Engineering and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to mitigate injury risk by focusing on hierarchy of controls: Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Controls, Warnings, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Participate in OEM and in-plant Machine Run-Off (MARO) activities to identify issues and track / coordinate completion with natural owners.
- Provide safety direction and expertise to launch team; GM Workplace Safety System (WSS), OSHA, MI-OSHA.
- Lead execution of Operator Support Tracking System (OSTS) and Operation Readiness processes for Safety to ensure readiness for all build events and start of regular production.
- Coordinate Safety training for launch team.
- Report progress to leadership.
Required experience and education:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety
- Supervisor safety training is preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience required.
- Ability to supervise skilled trades.
- Understanding of CAC (Capacity Assurance Coordinator) Program Activities and Administrative Functions.
- Knowledge of plant floor and plant supervision processes.
- General knowledge of industrial processes/safety/environment.
- High level of analytical ability to determine root cause or complex problems
- Knowledge and/or understanding of safety and/or environmental regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of business safety absolutes.
