General Summary:
The Safety Intern will collaborate with our local and divisional Safety departments to contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of various projects aimed at enhancing workplace safety and health, environmental compliance, and risk mitigation.
Education and/or Experience:
Must be currently enrolled as a student in an accredited undergraduate or graduate academic program and have completed one year of study.
Salary Compensation
$21/hr.
Schedule
8 or 10 hour “day” Monday-Friday
Position Details
- Responsible for personal safety
- Lead projects or actions to drive risk reduction throughout business
- Special assignments or projects relating to EHS
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and Job Safety Analyses
- Conduct quality audits
- Participate in the sites monthly Safety Committee meeting
- Participate/lead program and compliance audits
- Review and propose updates and/or changes to current safety programs
- Conduct routine EHS inspections across the campus in collaboration with the client group
- Identify new areas that need to be incorporated into the routine scheduled inspections
- Support execution, implementation, and tracking of a location's annual HSE plan
- Interface with regulatory bodies (DOT, State/Local Regulators) as needed
- Complete root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans to address root basic causes and management system weak-spots through the use of industry-recognized cause analysis techniques (5-Why, 8-D)
- Ability to recognize and identify trends and develop action/mitigation plans
- Demonstrated experience running with local safety or sustainability related programs (recycling, energy conservation) a plus
- Collect safety compliance information, conduct equipment inspections, and provide employee safety support
- Communicate with the Safety Manager and follow through with their directions, suggestions and concerns
- Willingness to learn the process of the plant, the associated procedures and regulations, and work in a team atmosphere
- Other tasks as needed to support the Mill Safety and Divisional Safety departments
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements:
- Practical application training may require some out-of-state travel to various other Pratt Paper Mills or vendor facilities
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (glasses, earplugs, shoes, gloves, etc…)
- Drug testing/Screening, Background Checks, and Physical exam
- Recognition of safety hazards in immediate working area and eliminating/minimizing the hazard
- Must be a strong and effective communicator
- Capable of maintaining a professional attitude and demeanor
- Must possess strong problem solving skills and willing to try new ideas for continuous improvement
- Must be proficient in basic math skills
- Proficient in Google Docs and Microsoft Office
