Safety Generalist

Position Overview:

The Safety Coordinator will be based out of the corporate office in Union, MO where they will assist in all aspects of safety including administration, auditing, training, inspections, investigations, fleet and DOT, MSHA, OSHA, and various other duties. This position may require travel in and out of the state approximately 20% of the time, strong communication, analytical, and computer skills are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying facilities and coordinating appointments and recording of employee evaluations including hearing testing, drug testing, respirator medical clearance, DOT medical evaluations, etc.
  • Work with several different drug consortiums to set up and register employees, obtain initial testing, random testing, etc.
  • Set up employee accounts and register them for various trainings, background checks, and process these documents as needed with various entitles.
  • Database tracking of workforce to determine training needs and deficiencies.
  • Follow up with employees and supervisors who have training expiring and/or delinquent.
  • Verify training and medical documents are complete and correct before electronically filing.
  • Assist in preparing and updating safety tests, training, presentations, etc. as needed.
  • Send monthly work hours and safety incident information to customers.
  • Assist with investigations including collection of information and research.
  • Assist with the inputting and processing of work comp, vehicle, and general liability claims.
  • Assist in processing customer pre-qualifications both online and manually.
  • Prepare letters, documents, presentations, and databases as needed.
  • Assist in preparing award applications.
  • Assist in preparing various safety related media announcements.
  • Assist with safety award programs.
  • Mailing items to sites as needed.
  • Reviewing tickets and ordering personal protective equipment (PPE) for various locations.
  • Verify qualification and process orders for fire retardant (FR) clothing and prescription safety eyewear.
  • Assist as onsite Safety in various midwestern states as needed.
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs various other duties and functions as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Safety experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Teams and Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working understanding of safety and administrative principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Work Availability

  • This role works traditional business hours but does require some flexibility on evenings, weekends, and during our couple week outage seasons in the spring and fall.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Training

  • Must provide proof of completed an OSHA 30-hour prior to starting work.
  • Safety Trainer status preferred.
