Safety Engineer

The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to address incidents, near-misses and potential hazards.
  • Taking ownership of plant EHS programs including but not limited to: Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Machine Guarding, Incident Investigation, Confined Spaces, and Work at Heights.
  • Leading cross functional teams through EHS incident investigation and root cause analysis and High Hazard Risk Reduction Assessments
  • Completing internal and external EHS compliance reports and analyze EHS data and report trends
  • Implementing on-going industrial hygiene chemical/noise exposure and assessment and monitoring plans while utilizing the 3M Workchec tool and systems.
  • Providing EHS oversight, design review, and testing of efficacy of exposure control measures including ventilations, administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
  • Providing technical assistance and guidance to plant by leading or assisting in safety committee teams and meetings, including EHS regulatory interpretations.
  • Providing EHS support in the design and installation of new or modified equipment, industrial automation, and management of change processes.
  • Supporting the development and delivery method of required EHS training to personnel.
  • Maintaining appropriate recordkeeping documentation to comply with all regulatory requirements and programs.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • One (1) year of environmental health and safety experience a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) experience in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Experience leading EHS projects and creating departmental and plant Lean Six Sigma targets
  • Experience completing Ergonomic Hazard Analysis
  • Experience in Industrial Hygiene Sampling Noise and Air Sampling
  • EHS-related certification(s) is/are a plus (or willingness to obtain)

  • DeKalb, Illinois

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

The expected compensation range for this position is $79,971 - $97,742, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
