Position Summary: Oversees all Safety related functions and is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing the company Safety and Health Program. Actively monitors processes, procedures, and operating conditions in the workplace. Ensures the company is compliant with local, state, and federal workplace requirements and regulations. Develops relationships both inside and outside of the company that promote safety at TP Mechanical Contractors and represents the Safety Department in a professional manner.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversees all safety related functions and personnel. Sets company policy and procedures for safety and insures compliance with those guidelines.
  • Ensures company is compliant with all OSHA, EPA, Local, State, Client, General Contractor and TP Mechanical Contractors rules and regulations.
  • Performs accident/injury/incident investigations to determine cause and possible preventive measures for future work of a similar nature. Further investigates all injury claims to ensure company is protected from fraudulent worker compensation claims.
  • Directly manages Regional Safety Managers/Specialists to ensure that the corporate safety program is administered consistently across all branches and project sites.
  • Makes corrective action recommendations to upper management concerning safety and health issues that may affect the company.
  • Reviews leading safety indicators for potential problem areas where additional safety training may be required. Incorporates accidents/near misses into training to help prevent future incidents.
  • Ensures safety, security, physical, and environmental issues and procedures are fully understood and executed throughout the company.
  • Develops and/or conducts all safety related training.
  • Regularly reviews worker compensation claims data for possible employer modification rate adjustments.
  • Handles all OSHA related issues such as inspections, citations, hearings, etc. Performs field safety audits to ensure compliance with all OSHA, State, Local and company safety rules and regulations. Directs and conducts site/facility walk-through inspections and documentation reviews.
  • Manages and develops the policy for the company’s comprehensive drug and alcohol program.
  • Compiles the monthly safety tracking data report for management. Produces other safety reports as needed.
  • Purchased required safety equipment for company personnel.
  • Manages the transitional return to work program for injured workers.
  • Manage the safety incentive bonus program.
  • Attend safety related BX, AGC seminars, meetings, forums, etc. as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in construction safety management.
  • Industry certification(s) or ability to obtain a certification within 12 months of hire from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP).
  • Strong background in workers compensation management.
  • Train the trainer certification.
  • OSHA certified training instructor.
  • Environmental compliance management experience is a plus.

Job Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Power Point, and any e-mail system.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Be able to lead and communicate effectively with trades, subcontractors, superintendents/foreman, project managers, and clients.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of handling confidential information.
  • Able to perform climbing (extreme heights), crawling, heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and must not be claustrophobic.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, or related program.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Driver License
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 50%) to all regions to walk job sites, conduct safety audits, meet clients, and attend meetings.
