Safety Compliance Officer
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary purpose and contribution of this job is to guide, educate, train, and motivate the workforce in all aspects of health and safety. Functions as an advanced level specialist on safety/health and related regulatory matters. Helps to formulate and implement safety procedures, processes, and programs with the Safety Manager.
Maintains oversight role on property wide safety matters, contractors and serves as safety, health, and governmental affairs resource for Mission Operations management. Evaluates safety performance, quality and recommends methods of improvement. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making authority under direction of the Safety Manager, response to safety, health and regulatory concerns. Additional duties include assisting in the management of the Operations security functions and workforce.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Address employee safety concerns
  • Train and educate Supervisors and employees
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects
  • Perform worksite inspections and audits
  • Review existing company safety standards, policies, procedures and make needed recommendations
  • Interface with regulatory agencies
  • Create and write safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Perform risk assessments
  • Facilitate safety meetings, Joint Management Safety Committee
  • Conduct accident investigations
  • Perform additional functions to health and safety activities
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Noise and Air monitoring measuring tools
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Must have a complete understanding of the Federal / State Regulatory Process
  • Must have a working understanding of the Mining and Milling Process
  • Ability to work within a team or independently as required
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must have a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma/ General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college desired
  • Must have or ability to obtain MSHA Instructor Certificate, CPR/First Aid Certifications
  • Working knowledge of 30 CFR Metal Mining and the Mining Code of the State of Arizona

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator and able to obtain a satisfactory fit test for respirators.
