Overview
We are seeking a Runway Desk Support Specialist 1 to join our Airport Data Engineering team in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a Runway Desk Support Specialist you'll make important contributions to our aircraft performance data products by analyzing data and feeding relevant information and solutions into our systems and databases. The Runway Desk Support Specialist 1 provides 24/7 operational support and collaborates with airports and/or customers to ensure accuracy of information. Detail and solution-orientation, the Runway Desk Support Specialist 1 proactively identifies, reports, and finds effective solutions to issues.
NOTE: This Runway Desk Support Specialist will have a shift to work 12am (midnight)-10:00am Wednesday-Saturday. These will be 4- 10 hour days. If you're a detail-oriented individual with a passion for aviation, this is the job for you!
Essential Functions
  • Analyzes NOTAMs and other data sources in order to maintain the currency of a runway database
  • Analyzes incoming airport and runway data and filters appropriate information to pilots through NOTAM and into our aircraft performance systems and databases
  • Collaborates with airports or customers to ensure accuracy of information
  • Makes decisions on priority and pertinence of information as it relates to aircraft performance
  • Proactively identifies and reports issues, working to identify solutions to aircraft performance
  • Establishes relationships and works collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin team members to achieve goals and objectives
  • Provides afterhours support related responses and can initially join customer teleconference bridges
  • Conducts initial aircraft setup for AeroData solutions (Basic Build - New Tools)
  • Reviews emails to determine and provide solution or escalate to other applicable teams
  • Creates tasks for Flight Operations customer support requests via the ticket system
  • Joins evening deployment calls; determines if issues arise and escalates as appropriate
  • Conducts initial triage of customer solutions and uses internal tools to help identify the issue
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Airport and Runway Database
  • Exemplifies Garmin's Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in a business or technical discipline AND 2 years' experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description OR Bachelor's Degree in a business or technical discipline OR substantial demonstrated aeronautical knowledge that would allow the Associate to complete the essential functions of the position
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Ability to build relationships across departments
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact efficiently with customers across the globe
  • Understands escalation procedures for service outages and/or customer concerns
  • Ability to set up Microsoft Teams live events
  • Ability to send out Customer Advisory Notices (MIM)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively, including a critical eye for the fine details in both quantitative and qualitative process and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced, and challenging environment
  • Driven problem solver with exceptional technical trouble shooting skills and demonstrated ability to resolve problems with minimal supervision
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrates familiarity with aeronautical source data for the analysis being conducted
  • Proficiency in numerical and arithmetic application for the role: Compiling data, using numbers in various formats, and utilizing this information to perform job-appropriate problem-solving and data entry

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or technical field
  • Pilot's License
  • Previous work experience in air traffic control or in aircraft dispatch
  • Experience as a pilot, aircraft dispatcher, FAA certified airman, performance engineer or load planner
  • Experience working at an airline
