BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group - Lynchburg is currently seeking a RTR QC Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!

 

The RTR QC Engineer is responsible for providing RTR QC floor support to the UPRR Research and Test Reactors Quality Control team. This position will also work with the QC FLM, QA, Process Engineering, and Operations.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Develops an intimate knowledge of the non-destructive testing (NDT) and dimensional inspection techniques on product lines.
  • Establishes well-documented and appropriately executed inspection techniques and methods for the verification of component attributes to working and design limits.
  • Assists or oversees the qualification of new and/or updated equipment and troubleshoots existing inspection equipment.
  • Develops and revises procedures to verify conformance with contract requirements.
  • Supports customer audits and inspections; performs internal audits and inspections.
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement for inspections. 
  • Provides technical input for proposals and development activities. Reviews existing and new specifications and requirements.
  • Participates in incident investigation teams.
  • Authors reports, change requests, functional specifications, software change requests, and safety evaluation requests. 
  • Trains inspectors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience. 
  • Must be capable of developing processes, procedures and equipment specifications based upon customer specifications.
  • Must possess strong technical writing skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment in order to anticipate and address complex technical issues.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with NDT inspections.

 

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $109,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
