TOWN OF ROCKY HILL JOB POSTING POLICE DEPARTMENT Part Time Animal Control OfficerABOUT US

The Town of Rocky Hill is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of part-time Animal Control Officer.  The Town is consistently ranked one of Connecticut’s most desirable residential and business communities.   The Rocky Hill Police Department is committed to serving the public in all areas of public safety and Animal Control needs.  The selected applicant will work directly for the Rocky Hill Police Department within the patrol division, and will work in collaboration with the men and women of the agency on a daily basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

This position is a part-time, non-bargaining position and must abide by all personnel rules which can be viewed online (www.rockyhillct.gov).  Salary is non-negotiable at $25.00 per hour.  Anticipated work schedule of 19 hours per week.  Applicants must be flexible in working days, evenings, and weekends.

Applicants must demonstrate and possess the required qualifications:

  1. Good interpersonal skills and ability to think independently and to exercise good judgement.
  2. Ability to maintain an “on call” status for situations arising during nonscheduled hours.
  3. Ability to effectively and efficiently respond to calls for assistance from the public relating to animal complaints or issues.
  4. Demonstrated experience in conducting related investigations and taking appropriate action such as arrests, warnings or referrals.
  5. Ability to monitor the domestic animal population for compliance in accordance with local ordinances and State laws.
  6. Possess a valid driver’s license.
  7. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, citizens of the United States, of good moral character with no record of dishonorable discharge from any police or fire department or from the armed forces of the United States and no record of conviction for repetitive motor vehicle violations, misdemeanor offense or conviction of a serious misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or conviction of a felony, and possess a valid driver’s license.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: PART-TIME ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER

DEPARTMENT: POLICE

REPORTS TO: POLICE ADMINISTRATION

SUPERVISES: NONE

BARGAINING UNIT: NON-BARGAINING 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responds to and/or handles all complaints regarding animal related issues.  Interacts with other town departments; performs carried administrative duties; deals with the public and law enforcement officials; does related work as required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Responds to calls for assistance from the public relating to animal complaints or issues.
  2. Conducts related investigations as required and takes appropriate action such as arrests, warning or referrals.
  3. Monitors the domestic animal population for compliance with State laws and local ordinances.
  4. Maintains an “on call” status for situations arising during nonscheduled hours.
  5. Assists with routine police administrative duties and does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPTENCIES:
  1. High School graduate or equivalency.
  2. Possess a valid driver’s license.
  3. Ability to speak clearly and to use proper English.
  4. Ability to meet and deal with the public.
  5. General computer skills and aptitude.
  6. Clerical aptitude and ability to keep records.
  7. Accuracy and attention to details a must.
  8. Good interpersonal skills and ability to think independently and to exercise good judgement.
  9. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  10. Must pass pre-employment process.
  11. Applicants must have reached their eighteenth birthday.
  12. Candidates must be citizens of the United States, of good moral character with no record of dishonorable discharge from any police or fire department or from the armed forces of the United States and no record of conviction for repetitive motor vehicle violations, misdemeanor offense or conviction of a serious misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or conviction of a felony.

 THE HIRING PROCESS
