Job description

Rocketbooster Teachers will provide before and aftercare support to Rocketeers under the direction and supervision of the School Site Manager and Senior Manager of Extended Learning. This position is responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day operations of before and aftercare of the school site run safely and smoothly. Furthermore, Rocketbooster Teachers are responsible for facilitating high-quality enrichment, academic, and specialized wellness activities that support Rocketeer Achievement. They will work at one of our three campuses in Washington, DC.

Essential Functions

    • Supervise and monitor students during assigned aftercare hours including during aftercare sessions
    • Implement all site rules and safety regulations within the structure of the Rocketship classroom culture and in adherence to OSSE regulations
    • Plan, internalize, and implement lesson plans and daily age appropriate activities for students in the classroom
    • Report any unsafe conditions, including equipment, to administrators immediately
    • Partner with school staff to ensure a safe and effective arrival/dismissal for all students before and after school hours
    • Utilize appropriate disciplinary procedures and techniques in accordance with the school site discipline plan
    • Ensure all proactive, positive behavior incentive systems are actively used in the classrooms
    • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as deemed necessary for the position
    • Facilitate academic, enrichment, and wellness activities to support Rocketeer growth and development.
    • Communicate regularly with families of students to build relationships, and share progress and important updates
    • Builds relationships and liaises with other all staff and families to drive collaboration and program success
    • Ensures all aspects of the Rocketbooster program are implemented with fidelity
    • All other duties as assigned and appropriate by the Site Manager

Required Qualifications


    • Compliance Qualifications
    • Must be 18 years old and meet at least one of the following:
    • Associates or more advanced degree with a major in early childhood or a closely related field
    • Associate’s or more advanced degree in an unrelated field and have earned at least 24 credit hours in early childhood education, or a closely related field, AND have at least one year of supervised occupational experience working with children in a licensed DC Child Development Center or equivalent in another jurisdiction
    • Earned at least 48 credit hours, or its recognized equivalent, of which 15 credit hours in early childhood education or a closely related field, AND have at two years of supervised occupational experience working with children in a licensed DC Child Development Center or equivalent in another jurisdiction; provided he or she earns an Associates degree by Dec. 2024
    • Earned a high school diploma, or its equivalent and a current CDA credential (with the specified age classification), AND must earn an Associate’s degree in the desired field by Dec. 2024

    • Previous experience managing and/or teaching groups of elementary-age students is strongly preferred
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of staff members
    • Ability to learn laws, rules, practices and procedures related to public education and specific to Rocketship Public Schools
    • Flexibility and a willingness to learn
    • Strong commitment to supporting Rocketship students and community
    • Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to build relationships with program leaders, community members, and families
    • Highly organized, able to multitask, and consistently meet deadlines
    • Experience with online learning tools, databases, and Google Suite programming

    • Due to OSSE standards, all aftercare staff are responsible for maintaining compliance standards including:
    • Child and Family Services Agency ( Child Protection Registry check),
    • a local fingerprint database check,
    • Drug and Alcohol Testing,
    • tuberculosis testing, and
    • CPR/First Aid certification and other continuing education training as well
This is a part-time position; typical work hours are 2:00 pm - 7:00pm, but may include additional hours for trainings, meetings, and other events. Pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Compensation:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
