Ideally, we are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, energetic, ambitious, proactive, and positive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Multi-tasking and attention to detail must be strengths this individual possesses. Individuals need to be comfortable to present and speak in front of staff and peers during in-person training.

The Rock Climbing Instructor position is an on-site position, including attending training at the Woodcraft Rangers main office in Little Tokyo and Camp Wodcraft site. 
 
The Rock Climbing Instructor will: 

  • Develop and deliver an ax throwing program that is developmentally appropriate for campers 

  • Focus on camper development (social skills, communal living skills, responsibility, self-esteem, leadership  

  • development, etc... ) 

  • Ensure that all camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures 

  • Maintain a clean, safe and secure ax throwing range at all times, including while not in use 

  • Maintain Rock ClimbingAS equipment and range area 

  • Conduct safety checks of equipment 

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned 

  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise special events, evening programs and other all-camp activities. 

  • Ensure campers have fun!! It’s camp! 
     
     
    Requirements: 
     
      

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED (AA Degree in Child Development or a related field preferred); prior experience working with groups of K-12 students in an academic or recreational setting preferred.  

  • Valid Livescan & TB Test  

  • Must have current certification in Rock Climbing instruction or documented training and experience 

  • Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.  

  • Possess attributes that contribute to camper success (enthusiasm, integrity, compassion, trustworthiness,  

  • patience and respect) 

  • Experience working with youth in a camp environment preferred, a minimum of one year working with youth  

  • in any setting. 

  • Ability to perform traditional summer camp activities (hike, chants, stand for extended periods of time, etc.) 

  • Possess the cognitive, auditory, and visual abilities to perform described duties at camp 

  • Woodcraft Rangers will require proof of vaccination for ALL employees providing any in-person work with  

  • staff or clients. 

  • All employees must submit a negative COVID-19 test result before their first date of employment. 

  • Must be able to stay at camp in Mountain Center, CA during camp season 
     

 
 
Physical Demands: 
 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

Requires  

  • normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/program.  

  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program in the facility available. Operate with  

  • daily exposure to the sun and heat and other environmental conditions.

  • Pay Range: $960 weekly salary + lodging and food during 4 weeks and 1 weekend of summer camp

June 6, 2024 – June 9, 2024 – at camp / overnight  

Camp Weeks:  

Weekend Date: June 14 – June 16  

6/23/24 - 6/28/24  

7/7/24 - 7/12/24  

7/21/24 - 7/26/24 

8/4/24 - 8/9/2024  

Additional weeks / weekends may become available
