Bristol Hospice of Honolulu is looking for a Float Registered Nurse to join our growing nursing team on Oahu. The Float Nurse provides coverage for short or extended periods to ensure quality care to patients during times when the RN Case Manager is not available. This person provides additional structure to the RN Case Manager in cases of emergent and unexpected needs, e.g. continuous care. This position involves bedside care, bedside charting, travel time pay, and mileage reimbursement.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current RN licensure in State where providing coverage, CPR certification and valid driver’s license
- Minimum one (1) year hospice experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be used in lieu of experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must demonstrate excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills
- Must possess exceptional problem-solving skills and basic math skills
- Must demonstrate nursing skills per competency checklist
- Field of experienced in nursing for acute or long-term care
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
- Must be able to read and follow instructions as required
- Must be able to travel, often without notice
- Must be flexible in work hours

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cover for nurses that call out or have scheduled leave
- Support “same day” admissions when admit volume is high
- Support daily triage calls from families and facilities
- Track discharge and non-admit patients
- Develop appropriate documentation regarding patient visits
- Act as a runner to MD offices or other locations to obtain or drop off patient documentation
- Support IDT meeting when manager is called out
- Host hospice aide in-services
- Precept new employees
- Provide facility education
- Ensure continuity and consistency of patient services
- Communicate with interdisciplinary team regarding changes in patient’s status and or plan of care
- Follow plan of care for patients assigned
