Department Overview
The Comprehensive Pain Center (CPC) team includes physicians, psychologists, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, chiropractors, acupuncturists, rolfers, massage therapists, and a naturopath who deliver truly comprehensive care and offer more training opportunities for fellows and residents. Patients benefit from both traditional (e.g., blocks, pumps, stimulators) and non-traditional (e.g., biofeedback and acupuncture) pain management techniques. The department is also nationally recognized in pediatric pain management.
Function/Duties of Position- Perform RN triaging duties; respond to patient questions and needs via the electronic medical record (Epic) and telephone. Respond to nurse triage and medication questions. Coordinate care and medication refills or changes with providers, pharmacies, and patients. Assess patient status and give telephone advice to ensure timely response to patient care needs, alert provider when necessary, and document advice given. Proactively reach out to patients for follow-up care. Meet required productivity and turn-around-time metrics for responding to patient messages.
- Gather pertinent information about the patient's medical, psychosocial, functional and insurance status. Communicate with the multidisciplinary team (MDs, NPs, nurses, pain psychologists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, Rolfers, PAS, MCC's).
- Facilitate multidisciplinary conferences when indicated by complexity of patient's clinical condition/, medical management or other barriers to care plan. Provide necessary education and information on available options, the informed decision making process and realistic goal setting in order to empower the patient/caregiver to actively participate in their plan of care.
- Participates in ongoing professional development and competency assessment. Maintains knowledge of life safety, patient safety, fire and electrical safety and disaster plan. Responds appropriately in emergency situations. Performs other duties needed to ensure smooth patient flow and clinical operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
- BSN required - Externals; BSN preferred - Internals
- Two years experience as RN
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong triage skills
- Broad knowledge of community health concepts, services and resources
- Competent in basic computer skills
- Current State of Oregon Registered Nurse license
- Current ACLS certification
- Master's degree in Nursing
- Experience in both ambulatory and hospital settings
- Prior experience working with chronic pain patients
- Knowledge of nursing procedures, including starting IVs, conscious sedation
