Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Ensures compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACS), Virginia State Office of EMS, and local trauma designation standards for Injury Prevention and outreach standards. Maintains required documentation to support compliance in conformance with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, ACS and local and State standards

  • Develops and implements Injury Prevention and outreach programs based on trauma registry data needs assessment and community / regional needs
  • Directs community trauma prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the community related to Injury Prevention and other topics identified through needs assessment of the community
  • Plans activities based on Performance Improvement indicators and evaluates effectiveness of plans
  • Attends Trauma Committee meetings to present information related to community education, Injury Prevention, and outreach
  • Participates in the Injury Prevention and outreach of trauma care systems at all levels, from local to national
  • Participate on committees, task forces and unit projects
  • Monitors performance for universal screening for alcohol use, and ensures all patients who have screened positive must receive an intervention (i.e., SBIRT) by appropriately trained staff prior to discharge, ensuring documentation is complete. Reports the effectiveness and monitoring with the Trauma Program Director, Trauma Medical Director and reports to the Trauma Committees
  • Develops, implements and monitors mental health screening initiatives to screen patients at high risk for psychological sequelae
  • Evaluates the impact of Injury Prevention activities
  • Collaborates with Trauma Program Director, Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator(s), Trauma Education Coordinator(s), Trauma Registrars, surgeons, nursing, ancillary, other department leaders on Injury Prevention and outreach initiatives
  • Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients and their families related to Injury Prevention activities
  • Works closely with Emergency Medical Service providers, public health authority, regional trauma program coordinators and the community
  • Maintains a high level of expertise and professional growth related to the care of the trauma patient through review of current literature (Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses, Centers for Disease Control, SafeKids, etc.) available on Injury Prevention
  • Remains knowledgeable on Injury Prevention legislation activities (locally, regionally, and nationally)
  • Collaborates with public affairs and marketing on Injury Prevention materials and initiatives for the hospital and community
  • Coordinates activities supporting the Trauma Survivor Network and acts as a representative for the facility’s Trauma Program
  • Prepares reports at the direction of the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Director
  • Acts in a pivotal role for Continual Readiness activities for inspections of the Trauma Service
  • Represents Trauma Services at various internal and external committees and forums
  • Completes all mandatory education requirements of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and the Trauma Services department
  • Promotes teamwork and positive relationships and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assists with EMS feedback and outreach projects (i.e. community Injury Prevention events)
  • Acts in accordance with facility privacy policies and adheres to HIPPA regulations
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Trauma Program Director

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing
  • BSN required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related health field preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience required
  • 3 years recent experience in Trauma nursing preferred
  • Injury Prevention and Outreach experience preferred
  • Project management
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • ENPC Preferred
  • TNCC instructor preferred
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia
  • Strong computer and hospital informatics skills: Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and Virginia Office of EMS Trauma Designation requirements
  • Excellent customer service skills ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and staff as appropriate
  • Public speaking skills
  • Strong networking abilities
