This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the Louisiana Board of Registered Nursing.
Education: Possession at minimum an Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two - Three years (2-3) of full-time experience as a LPN, ADN or RN in a hospital-based ambulatory care health center (clinic), Experience working with and familiarity of the Medical Assistant scope of practice in Louisiana.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:

  • The principles and practices of supervision
  • Current principles, techniques, equipment, and methods of modern nursing
  • Hospital and ambulatory care protocols and policies
  • Medical terminology, medicines, procedures
  • Nursing, Medical Assistant and regulatory standards (i.e., JCAHO)

Skill in:
  • Performing nursing services and leadership duties.

Ability to:
  • Supervise professional and non-professional employees
  • Team building skills
  • Review subordinates work performance and determine conformance to recognized standards
  • Maintain effective relationships with patients and staff
  • Coordinate nursing services with other hospital services
  • Prepare accurate records and reports
  • Determine training needs of staff
  • Provide and promote excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers

  • Acknowledge and respect cultural and linguistic differences of Louisiana's diverse population

Typical Tasks
  • Manage clinic flow to ensure timely throughput of patients within our setting
  • Assists in planning, developing, and implementing policies and procedures for nursing and other clinical services
  • Identifies additional clinic needs and available resources as necessary for expansion
  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and manages the work of professional and non-professional nursing personnel engaged in performing clinical services for a variety of Ambulatory Care programs
  • Assures that patients are triaged and referred to appropriate service
  • Monitors work, referral, and message queues, ensuring timely management of requests.
  • Interviews, hires and orients nurses, clinical staff, and dental assistants
  • Evaluates staff performance
  • Manages patient complaints as appropriate
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements change to promote continuous Quality Improvements
  • Functions as liaison with Service Line Directors
  • In conjunction with the Clinic Leads, coordinates problem resolution involving all departments providing services at a specific location and facilities overall health center functions
  • Functions as liaison with Ancillary Managers
  • Coordinates educational opportunities for clinical support staff
  • Keeps required records and prepares reports
  • Insures that required supplies, equipment, drugs, biologicals, medications, and similar materials are on hand
  • Assures that the quality of nursing care provided meets all nursing and regulatory standards including Prepaid Health Plans (PHP), JCAHO
  • Makes budgetary recommendations for clinical operation and capital equipment expenditures for the assigned clinical areas

  • Provides and promotes excellent customer service and positively represents UMC in all internal and external customers interactions
