Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - 8 Beds in PICU we have an Intensivist 24/7
When your child needs special care for a critical health condition, rest assured there are no better hands than those of the staff in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Children have unique medical needs and health issues that require pediatric specialty care.
The phrase, "intensive care" indicates that your child needs close observation and monitoring. An elite team of pediatric physician specialists in more than 20 subspecialties care for the children in the PICU and the nurses are experienced in caring for the sickest children in the hospital.
Our family-centered care philosophy ensures that you are kept up-to-date about your child's condition, and receive the information you need to make informed choices about your cild's care. The 14-bed PICU is certified by the California Children's Services and provides the highest level of intensive medical care.
When your child's condition improves and intensive care is no longer needed, your child is transferred to our Pediatric Unit where continuity of care is ensured.
The PICU unit at Northridge Hospital Medical Center is actively seeking individuals who demonstrate patient care excellence. We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the PICU unit to coordinate, supervise and implement patient care to patients Newborn to 18 years in accordance with individual needs based on competence, professional expertise, knowledge and evidence-based practice. The Registered Nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with professional standards, Nurse Practice Act and hospital job description specific to the unit. This position is critical to the success of Northridge Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission and organizational values of the Dignity Health system.

Responsibilities
  • Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental, infection control standards, Nurse Practices Act and Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Applies clinical knowledge and expertise for coordinating patient care by regularly planning and evaluating the care of patients.
  • Establishes and maintains professional and collaborative relationships with other staff members, physicians, patients, patient family members, and the public as appropriate, while assuring confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Demonstrates effective nursing judgement and a working knowledge of the nursing process.
  • Provides guidance to interdisciplinary team members by supervising nursing interventions and assisting with related tasks.
  • Provides leadership by establishing priorities and coordinating nursing care.
  • Documents and communicates all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient condition to the appropriate member of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Coordinates plan of care with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Communicates the plan of care to the patient and care partner(s) for the active involvement of the patient in the evolution of the plan throughout hospitalization.
  • Conducts hourly rounds with the patient and care partner, focusing on pain management, skin integrity, elimination and other miscellaneous patient needs.
  • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative manner when dealing with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Demonstrates understanding of organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
  • Acts as a resource for all aspects of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for employees and medical staff.
  • Serves as a preceptor and role model to new personnel and nursing students.
  • Administers medications to assigned patients as directed and assesses and documents patient responses; initiates appropriate interventions per Hospital/Unit policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of Accredited RN school of Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse with current California license.
  • Minimum 1 year current acute care registered nursing experience in PICU.
  • Current certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Must complete at a minimum a two-day pediatric intensive care course including didactic plus clinical rotation, BRN approved.
  • Must complete a minimum of two days of specific pediatric education every two years, which is BRN approved.
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS required.
  • LA City Fire Care required within 90 days of hire.
