Job Summary and Qualifications
RN Pedi Cardiac ICU/CVICU PRN
Methodist Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Cardiac Care Unit (PCCU), is a specialized unit dedicated to caring for infants and children with congenital heart defects. Specially skilled nurses and techs provide care for patients with heart failure, after cardiac catheterizations and after surgical repairs. Our PCCU offers the following opportunities for nurses: Specialized Care: In a PCCU, nurses play a pivotal role in caring for young patients with complex and critical congenital heart conditions. This demands a deep understanding of pediatric cardiology, congenital heart defects, critical thinking and post-operative care. Advanced Technology: The unit employs cutting-edge medical technology including ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machines, ventilators, and high-tech monitoring equipment. Nurses must be skilled in operating and troubleshooting this equipment. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: PCCU nurses work closely with a multidisciplinary team including Pediatric Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiac Intensivists, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists, Speech Therapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists, and Dieticians to provide comprehensive care for our patients. Family Centered Care: Nurses in the PCCU provide support not only to patients but also to anxious and emotionally stressed parents and families. Effective communications and empathy are essential. Continual Learning: Pediatric cardiac nursing demands ongoing education and training to stay current with advancements in cardiac care. Career Growth: Working in a PCCU offers numerous opportunities for professional development, such as becoming a Preceptor, Charge Nurse, Pediatric Cardiac Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse Educator
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Neonate Resuscitate
- Registered Nurse Texas State or Compact State license required
- Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
- 1-2yrs Pedi Cardiac ICU/CVICU or ICU acute care hospital nursing experiences
