Job Summary
Provides circulating nurse services in the operating room during surgical or pain management procedures and assists the surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures.
The staffing of the hospital is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross- trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
1. Supervises and directs patient care in the individual operating rooms
2. Performs all circulating duties with efficiency and speed
3. Ensure patient’s emotional, physical and psychological needs are met
4. Ensures that proper techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.
5. Supervises and assists scrub technician as necessary
6. Ensures care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart, and reporting of changes in condition
7. Performs scrub duties as necessary
8. Assists in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment
9. Assists the anesthesiologist/CRNA as necessary
10. Documents all nursing care delivered in the operating room in the medical record
11. Performs other nursing duties as assigned
12. Help to check dates on expirables, i.e. medication, chemicals, equipment, etc….
13. Maintains and keeps up-to-date with established hospital/departmental policies and procedures
14. Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital related business
15. Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other hospital employees
16. Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
17. Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and hospital business
18. Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration)
19. Helps the company to attain 5% expenditure minimization goal

Marginal Duties
Performs other duties as assigned 5% of the time.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory duties
Qualifications - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education And/Or Experience
1. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
2. Licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
Operating room experience (minimum 1 year).
3. ACLS, BLS, PALS required,
4. Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs.
5. Practices nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions.
6. Possesses appropriate communication skills to practice collaborative nursing.
7. Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes.
Language, Mathematical, And/OR Reasoning Ability
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITIES:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to communicate in a high pressure environment.
