The MDS Nurse monitors and documents the management of the Medicare and Managed Care residents.
Required Qualifications
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to residents.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
Must be a supportive team member.
Education & Experience
Must possess a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice
Must have a minimum of one year of nursing experience.
Preferred to have at least six months of experience as a MDS Coordinator.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Complete MDSs, CAAs and plans of care in accordance with the RAI guidelines for all residents.
Complete required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Provide resident status updates.
Comply to all regulatory and professional standards and guidelines.
Adhere to facility policies and procedures and participate in facility quality improvement and safety programs.
Provide an environment for new MDS staff to excel in the position
Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents’ needs.
