About the Community – Pine Ridge, South Dakota
The Oglala Lakota tribe, part of the Greater Sioux Nation, still lives on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the second largest reservation in the United States. Pine Ridge serves as tribal headquarters and is located near the Nebraska border in the southernmost part of the Badlands and Black Hills Region. With its remote location, Pine Ridge features expansive landscapes for wilderness camping and exploring. Visitors can also find comfortable lodging on the reservation during their stay. The rugged terrain around Pine Ridge features wide-open prairies, grasslands and the mystical Badlands of South Dakota. These lands are sacred to the tribe and offer a serene way to reconnect with nature. About the Facility – Pine Ridge Hospital
The 45-bed Pine Ridge Hospital, serving a Lakota Indian population of more than 17,000, is the largest in the Great Plains Area. A 16 physician staff sees medical, obstetrical, pediatric, and surgical patients. The facility located in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, includes full service general surgery, an obstetrical ward, and dental. Kyle and Wanblee Health Centers and two health stations (Manderson and Lacreek) operate within the Pine Ridge Service Unit.

RN Emergency: RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
  • The RN Emergency is responsible for obtaining patient history, assessing patients, and planning appropriate nursing care. They document the plan of care and interventions in the patient's medical record, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Verifying physician's orders, as well as the execution and documentation of prescribed orders, are crucial responsibilities. No verbal orders are accepted, ensuring patient safety and adherence to established protocols.
  • Reassessing patient conditions and adjustment of care plans based on identified nursing problems is integral to quality nursing care.
  • The RN Emergency participates in discharge planning, initiation of life-saving measures in the absence of physicians, and the assurance of accurate and validated documentation are essential components of the RN's role.
  • Shall assess and document patient responses to administered medications, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and responding appropriately to emergencies and therapeutic procedures.
  • Should be proficient in operating defibrillators, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and other emergency technical equipment is vital. RNs care for patients with specialized equipment such as Swan-Ganz catheters, central venous catheters, arterial lines, and mechanical ventilators.
  • The RN Emergency conducts regular assessments of intake and output, reviewing all laboratory data and electronic medical records. They can titrate medications, perform urinary catheter care, central line and ventilator care, skin assessments, and initiate measures to prevent Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers (HAPU).
RN Emergency: REQUIREMENTS
  • Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience.
  • Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Must have a minimum of 24 months experience in an Emergency Room environment during the last 36 months.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) are mandatory for all specialties.
  • Evidence of current immunizations is required.
Working Conditions:
The Emergency Nurse will work primarily in a hospital setting, with frequent interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. This position may require working irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Emergency Nurse may also be required to respond to emergencies and provide on-call support as needed.
