The STC is responsible for providing advanced clinical leadership and clinical outcomes with the ongoing management of critical care patients by facilitating operations, improving system processes, and using of evidence-based patient care. This is facilitated by 1) the management of the delivery of quality patient care and the facilitation of patient flow to internal and external resources; 2) the facilitation of efficient operations to support the delivery of patient care; 3) identify and recommend unit-based initiatives to promote patient safety and quality; 4) the ongoing management of regulatory and organizational compliance requirements. Responsible for performing all duties in compliance with the Bridgeport Hospital mission, values and customer service standards.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Weight 40 1. Synergy Leader 1 .1 Collaborates with clinical nurses, assuring patient care across the continuum 1 .2 Serves as a mentor to clinical staff, empowering their advocacy of patient care 1 .3 Promotes the use of scientific principles and critical thinking skills in the delivery of nursing care 1. 4 Works with the staff on developing time management, prioritization and critical thinking skills on the continuum 1 .5 Is a leader in, and facilitates staff engagement in innovation and evidenced based care 1 .6 Develops strong positive relationships with all members of the team 1 .7 Works in collaboration with nursing education to facilitate training of staff and certain projects

Clinical Leadership 2 .1 Shares accountability for safe, effective, high-quality care and optimal outcomes in the setting 2. 2 Uses appropriate teaching/learning principles, strategies, and materials as well as current research and technologies to facilitate the learning of the patient and all members of the care team 2 .3 Practices and mentors skilled communication 2 .4 Practices and mentors collaboration with interdisciplinary teams 2. 5 Rounds daily with clinical nurses at the point of care for coordination of services, education, and quality improvement. 2 .6 Collaborates with professional governance and supports the submission of best practice changes 2 .7 Serves as a resource by providing expert clinical knowledge

Clinical Outcomes/Reduction and Elimination of Adverse Events 3.1 Collaboratively manages a data driven environment to measure unit specific outcomes for nurse sensitive indicators and any other initiative identified by the organization that require monitoring. Assist with decreasing/eliminating adverse events at unit-specific level: i.e. CLABSI, CAUTI, patient falls, Pressure Injuries etc. 3.2 Evaluates the current status and needs of a given patient population: i.e., reviewing/ appraising the latest evidence-based practice 3 .3 Collaboratively establishes an evidence-based evolving plan for the improvement of care 3.4 In coordination with other unit leadership, ensures that patient care operations staff are meeting evidence-based practice standards and are institutional policies/strategies

Optimize Utilization of Resources 4 .1 Oversees a patient centered environment 4 .2 Unit specific focus on best practices and barriers 4 .3 Early Intervention goal: Right Patient/Right Bed/Right Time 4 .4 Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to achieve all patient specific goals 4 .5 Identifies future quality projects that add value through improving hospital cost and patient care

Professional Member/Lifelong Learner 5 .1 Upholds the standards of specialty practice applicable to the patient population 5 .2 Participates in continuing education for self and the development of future colleagues 5 .3 Develops personal goals for professional development and continuing education

Qualifications
EDUCATION
BSN required.
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years minimum experience in ICU and Charge RN role
LICENSURE
RN required. BLS, ACLS required. CCRN or PCCN required within one year of hire. SPIRE 2 or 3 preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated clinical expertise, critical thinking and computer skills. Must have excellent prioritization and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to implement, support and effectively monitor change
Additional Information
Minimum 3 years' experience in critical care required. Progressive leadership experience desirable with proven track record of success in program development or participation, program implementation in areas of clinical patient care management, staff development. Licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. CCRN or PCCN specialty certification
