Circulating RN for OP Ophthalmic Surgery Center working with a team of highly skilled professionals. Primary procedure performed is Adult Cataract Extraction with IOL Implant, performed by 4 staff surgeons. State of the art equipment and technology insures excellent patient outcomes.

- Basic understanding of operating room equipment including, but not limited to: microscope, phacoemulsification machine, Electrosurgical unit, surgeon headlamp, LASERs, medical gases, patient gurney, & patient care monitor.
- Maintenance of electronic medical record including Safe Surgical Checklist. Recognition of the need for narrative recording of unusual operating room events.
- Ability to provide appropriate education to patients as needed.
- Ability to utilize general nursing foundation to formulate a patient specific intraoperative plan, act as the patient’s advocate, and relay information (report) to others during patient “hand off.”
- Ability to apply Surgical Principles, and specifically Ophthalmic Surgical Principles, to the care of the patient, including: Proper performance of “time out”, safe patient positioning, safe use of the ESU, safe use of a LASER, proper surgical skin prep, proper dressing application, proper needle count, appropriate handling of specimens, & maintenance of surgical logs.
- Administer medications safely, adhering to Safe Injection Practices and their implications.
- Participate in Supply Inventory Maintenance.
- Adherence to Infection Control Policies & Procedures.
- Familiarity with Medical Emergency Preparedness Policies & Procedures.
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the state of California
- At least 2 years experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least 1 year of the experience occurring in a perioperative setting as a Circulating Nurse.
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- CNOR certification preferred
