Job description

Work Schedule:

  • 24 hours per week
  • Day shift, 3x8 shift schedule, M, T, W, M, W Th

Salary Range: $35.83 - $67.91

Other Compensation:

  • BSN (or higher) premium - $1.00/hour
  • Certification premium - $1.00/hour

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Staff Nurse processes patient referrals and initiates verification of coverage, conducts intake interviews, coordinates outpatient exercise sessions, provides education of patients and their families, and evaluates patient progress. He/she is also responsible for assisting in program development, revision of policies and procedures, and performance improvement activities.

Duties:

  • Acknowledges, coordinates and implements diagnostic and therapeutic orders of each patient.
  • Adheres to American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and DNV recommended guidelines for cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Conduct quarterly Emergency Preparedness Skills Competency – 9 skills are assessed and /or reviewed.
  • Identifies emergent situations, and is able to perform in a calm and professional manner during the emergency situation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to operate necessary equipment including but not limited to Cardiac Monitor and Doppler.
  • Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnoses.
  • Assumes all responsibilities of a clinical staff nurse by providing direct patient care to patients
  • Assists with delivery of secondary prevention/maintenance (phase III) program.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing standards.
  • Verifies daily billing and charges are completed and gives to the Schedule Coordinator for input into Meditech.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Documents relevant information accurately and legibly in clear, concise terms, utilizing appropriate charting methods as approved by Nursing Administration.
  • Communicates with the referring physician on pertinent patient information to include, but not limited to symptoms, problems, change in condition, progress and outcomes.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other hospital and community resources to help meet individual patient needs.
  • Communicates and markets program benefits through presentation, meetings and/or symposia to other hospital departments, physician clinics and the surrounding community.
  • Respects patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality, serving as an advocate as necessary.
  • Responds in a constructive and sensitive manner to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of patients, families and visitors.
  • Responds in a constructive and sensitive manner to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of peers and other hospital personnel promoting good working relationships.
  • Keeps co-workers informed of status and progress of patients to maintain continuity of care.
  • Assesses knowledge level of patient/significant other, participates with patient/significant other in goal development to meet needs.
  • Develops individualized treatment plan, (ITP), teaching plan and evaluates outcome.
    • Documents appropriate components of the nursing process according to established standards.
    • Meets monthly with medical director to review patient charts and sign off on treatment plans.

Professionalism & Leadership Ability

  • Accepts, supports, and implements hospital and nursing department policies and programs, enhancing the development of the same by making recommendations for change.
  • Assesses staffing need to provide quality care and requests additional help when needed, and forgoes additional staffing when not needed. Accepts constructive criticism and takes action to improve.
  • Strives for excellence and safety in patient care, and as necessary, challenges/or corrects errors of peers to ensure patient safety and well-being, participating in peer review.
  • Attends workshops and in-services which meet areas of skill development needs or continuing education interest, as defined at time of hire or in annual evaluation.
  • Attends and participates at staff meetings.
  • Participates in formulation and implementation of Policies and Procedures.

Demonstrates competence while serving in coordinator position by: a) making assignments for patient care, b) being aware of general condition of outpatients, c) investigating and intervening in problem situations reporting appropriate information to Nursing Administration, physician, etc.

Assesses own learning needs, establishes priorities and develops action plan.

Requirements:

  • Current Washington State RN License
  • Current ACLS and BLS Certification
  • CCRP certification preferred.
  • Graduate of accredited RN program.
  • 2 – 3 years experience in cardiac monitoring

Work Environment:

The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, should have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports are required; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
