The Insurance Collections Specialist is responsible for timely, accurate, and comprehensive billing of all provider services utilizing appropriate CPT procedures and ICD-10 diagnosis codes, composing appeals to overturn denied claims as well as collecting, posting, and managing account payments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains current and essential knowledge of all contracted insurance plans, as well as maintaining a working knowledge of payer portals and software.
- Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
- Review medical record documentation to identify all services provided are accurately and appropriately reported using correct CPT and ICD-9/10 codes.
- Identifies trends/problems in medical documentation and recommends possible solutions.
- Responsible for the release of medical documentation to third-party payers, when necessary, while maintaining and abiding by federal laws governing such release.
- Review A/R aging and contact insurance companies to determine the status of overdue and outstanding insurance claims to resolve claims on time.
- Analyzes claim rejects and denials for correction and resubmission. Responsible for timely reporting/review to monitor claims not paid within 90 days.
- Processes payments from insurance companies ensuring that reimbursement is correctly made according to the terms of contractual agreements/fee schedules.
- Prints and mail claim forms and statements or processed through EDI as requested.
- Participates in educational activities and attends department staff meetings.
- Conducts oneself per company policies and procedures.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines.
- Takes on additional special projects as assigned.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- Full-Time
- There is a possibility of working from home 2 days a week after 90 days of employment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prior medical billing experience is required.
- College degree, or High School Diploma with equivalent work experience.
- Working knowledge of ICD-9/10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, fee schedule reimbursement methodology, and regulatory requirements for provider coding and reimbursement.
- Working knowledge of key coding concepts, such as CPT modifiers, surgical packages, medical record documentation requirements, and multiple procedure guidelines.
- Computer skills and proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, etc. internet search functionality are required.
- General understanding of professional fee billing processes and procedures.
