The Office of University Risk Management is responsible for affirmative control and minimization of risk, promoting a strong proactive loss prevention program, and using aggressive leading edge concepts to insure the safety of students, employees and others as well as protecting the assets and income of each system campusPosition Summary:The Risk Management Senior Professional position exists to support Boulder Campus departments and units to adopt a Risk Management philosophy and Risk Management programs. The position may also provide support to the URM Systems office and the other URM campus operations.
This position's activities and functions are primarily at the Boulder Campus to assist in promoting a campus environment in which all are responsible for protecting and enhancing the reputation and assets of the University. Acting as a subject matter expert, this position will collaborate effectively with offices, departments, and employees to mitigate the university's risks through Risk Management tools and processes in support of the mission of teaching, research and public service.Where You Will Work:This position is approved for an in-person work arrangement. Alternative work arrangements may be considered in the future. This position is located on the CU Boulder Campus, travel to campus is required as needed. Duties & Responsibilities:

Analysis

  • Works with Facilities Management Planning, Design and Construction Project Managers and Coordinators in their efforts to acquire the appropriate insurance limits from 3rd party contractors. Reviews, verifies, and approves insurance contract language for Planning, Design and Construction (PD&C) contracts. Interprets and explains 3rd party contract insurance guidelines to PD&C as necessary.
  • Assists the Director in the review and verification of insurance requirements in selected campus contracts.
  • Review, analyze, and sign the Campus Event Management Form and Alcohol Authorization Form for URM as part of the campus event management approval process.
  • Works in conjunction with URM Claims Adjusters to identify claim trends, analyze losses for the purpose of risk mitigation. Must attain high-level proficiency with analysis and use of the URM claims database.
  • Identify and develop Risk Management topics to formally present to campus departments as part of the office training and outreach efforts.

Communication

  • In consultation with the Director and/or URM systems administration office, the Risk Management Senior Professional assists Boulder Campus departments in the identification of loss producing hazards. Initiates and helps develop strategies to reduce the potential for loss.
  • Works effectively with campus departments to communicate insurance, claim, and Risk Management information. Provides Boulder Campus departments consultation on Risk Management process and procedures.
  • Works in conjunction with campus departments to develop and present training and information sessions

Underwriting

  • With guidance from the Director and/or URM systems office, collects a variety of technical information from campus departments for the preparation and submission of underwriting data for the university's insurance program renewals, including the self-insured retention across all lines of insurance.

Customer Service

  • Claim investigation as needed to analyze and potentially mitigate possible safety and loss producing hazards.
  • Understands and applies the URM Property and Liability insurance policy language to determine coverage along with interpretation of the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act and self-insured retention programs.
  • Respond to critical campus losses anytime during both typical working hours and off hours including nights and weekends, as necessary.

Administrative

  • Produce and analyze claims system reports for the Director and campus partners to discuss and/or present to various safety professionals on campus
  • Participates in assigned campus Risk Management and safety committees
  • Issues Certificates of Insurance for campus departments by reviewing 3rd party contract requirements and determining appropriate coverages and limits
  • Provides assistance and back up to URM Director and other URM personnel as needed
  • Manages special projects and other Risk Management activities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Risk Management, insurance, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (professional experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the educational requirement)
  • Three (3) years professional experience in a Risk Management, safety, health and/or property & casualty industry related position. Experience on a CU campus may be substituted for technical experience based on the position held.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of professional experience, as stated above.
  • Professional experience in higher education and/or Colorado public entity Risk Management.
  • Professional designation of ARM, CRM, CPCU or other comparable designation.
