Job description

Cedarwood Waldorf School is looking for a dynamic individual to begin the Waldorf journey with the 2024-2025 First Grade class. The daily lesson teacher works collaboratively with subject teachers to meet the needs of the class. Mentoring support is provided for teachers new to Cedarwood and pay is based on experience.

Cedarwood is a comprehensive and creative Waldorf pre-k through middle school program that introduces academics in a developmentally thoughtful way. Each student’s imagination is continually nurtured as they develop the capacity to meet the challenges of learning math, language arts, history, geography, science, music, eurythmy, handwork, movement, and two foreign languages, Spanish and Japanese.

REPORTS TO

  • The Pedagogical Director

HOURS WORKED

  • 1.0 FTE; exempt
  • Usual hours are 7:45 am to 3:45 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • The academic year begins July 1st and ends June 30th.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that curriculum meets the standards of Waldorf pedagogy.
  • Plans and evaluates daily classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate and correspond with the goals set for individual children.
  • Forms and maintains a healthy social life in the classroom.
  • Brings children of concern to the grades faculty for consultation and recommendation.
  • Consults with Education Support Instructors and makes referrals as needed regarding children with unique educational needs.
  • Works with Pedagogical Director and Educational Support instructors and forms Personalized Education Plan (PEP) as needed.
  • Models appropriate behavior, dresses professionally, and maintains healthy hygiene at all times.

SPACE USE, SUPPLIES, AND BUDGET

  • Ensures that the classroom environment meets the standards of Waldorf Pedagogy.
  • Keeps classroom, storage areas, faculty room, and common areas neat and clutter free.
  • Ensures that the class is supplied with all needed materials and supplies.
  • Makes appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage.
  • Keeps expenses within yearly budget.

ASSESSMENTS, REPORTS, AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Maintains child behavior observation notes to be used for parent-teacher conferences, year-end reports, and assessment completions.
  • Maintains complete and accurate child files, forms, and reports within allotted timelines to document and track the needs of children and services provided.
  • Provides, or necessary feedback for, Parent-Teacher conference.
  • Communicates with families regarding child behavior, parent education, and school events.
  • Year-end reports for students are to be filed by July 1st or end day of employment.

WORK WITH PARENTS, OUTREACH, AND COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • Provides a minimum of four classroom parent evenings a year and sends weekly written information home to parents about class activities and progress. Subject teachers will attend parent meetings as needed.
  • Provides parent education in collaboration with shared faculty agreements on topics related to specific grades, as well as proactive topics.
  • Welcome prospective parents and students visiting class during tours.
  • Replies to referrals for prospective students by the enrollment director within 24 hours with a plan to shadow the class and meet with the teacher.

SUMMER WORK AND ACCESSIBILITY

  • Assures all training and preparatory work for curriculum and classrooms is completed.
  • Reports to school by August 15th for mandatory in-service and classroom preparation for the first day of school.
  • Be available for communication and meetings with prospective students, or delegate acceptance authority to the Pedagogical Director and Enrollment Director.

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION AND TEAMWORK

  • Arrives at work on time, punctually attends and actively participates in all required meetings and training including committee work.
  • Is a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member and participant in school activities.
  • Attends faculty, section, and committee meetings.
  • At minimum, attends open houses, Journey through the Grades, Three Pillars meeting, Winter Faire, and the Auction.
  • Participates in in-service days during the year and at the beginning and end of the School Year.
  • Be responsible for daily playground and recess supervision.
  • Abides by decisions made by faculty and school leadership.
  • Adhere to a professional code of conduct.
  • Logs in time-offs and sick leave in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other school operations.

TRAINING

  • Develops own professional work goals and training and mentoring plan in consultation with the Professional Development Committee and Pedagogical Director.
  • Attends February inservice or submits proposal for alternative professional development.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, current state and federal laws that affect educators.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has completed Waldorf Teacher training, continues working towards completion of their training, or has equivalent experience.
  • Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Must have a commitment to self-development.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have first aid and CPR training completed within two months of being hired.

Salary: $46,500.00 - $60,000.00 per year depending on education/training and experience
