Scope:
The R&I Lab Technician is responsible for completing tasks and documentation to help maintain the R&I Lab and support the R&I team. This includes verifying, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment, completing stability testing, managing the receipt of packages and raw materials and the inventory of lab supplies, in accordance with all applicable standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI). It is a requirement for this role to understand and implement cGMP and other safety and laboratory related requirements.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Receive incoming packages for R&I team, log and label samples appropriately, distribute or store samples as directed.
- Aid with maintaining an accurate inventory of Safety Data Sheets for samples received by the R&I Lab, and formulas produced at the KDC/One Groveport site, as required by OSHA standards.
- Maintain raw materials in R&I lab, including receiving samples from compounding department, ensuring all samples are labeled correctly, and disposing of expired materials.
- Responsible for verification, calibration, maintenance and maintaining documentation for various lab equipment (Balances, pH meters, light boxes, stability chambers, etc)
- Performs new equipment validation (IQ/OQ) Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification and records results on appropriate forms.
- Responsible for correct storage of stability samples at various conditions, and equilibrating samples for analysis at prescribed stability testing intervals.
- Analyze stability samples, record data accurately and maintain stability records per specified test methods or work instructions.
- Report stability results to R&I personnel and/or R&I Manager, or customer as directed.
- Housekeeping to include (but not limited to): cleaning water baths, stability ovens and fridges, washing of lab ware as needed throughout the laboratory area.
- Reconcile and maintain appropriate inventory of lab supplies, components, glassware and equipment. Communicates inventory discrepancies to R&I management.
- Complies with laboratory safety and environmental protection policies and procedures, for handling and disposal of the different chemicals.
- Performs all work in a manner consistent with the company’s quality system, and FDA and GMP regulations, includes maintaining a clean, contaminant-free and orderly work area at all times.
- Follows, promotes and enforces KDC’s safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures.
- Aid with filling, labeling, packing and shipping samples as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of high school diploma
- 2+ years’ experience working in a testing laboratory environment preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience with handling Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) documents, strongly preferred.
- Ability to promote and participate in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
- Self-starter with strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Strong communication (both written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and manage time efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines.
- Good understanding of FDA Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations (GMP’s) and OSHA safety requirements.
- Basic computer and internet navigation skills. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Able to work overtime, weekends and 1st and 2nd shift as needed.
- Wear hairnet, safety glasses, long pants, steel toe shoes/boots and any other uniform standards.
- Read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability sit, bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time in one place.
- Able to lift items up to 50 lbs.
