Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a daily audit of ticket agent/receiver tours and verification of appropriate documentation in a thorough, timely and efficient manner. This includes a system audit of ticket agent/receiver tours and verification of electronic data to the appropriate documentation. Assures conformance to instructions and NJTRO practices and is in compliance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
  • Maintains monthly control of station activity (including balance sheets, overs and shorts and ticket sequence reports) in a timely and accurate manner supported by tours and month-end audit results. Maintains documentation and files supporting balances in conformity with instructions and NJTRO practices and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Prepares and balances ticket agent/receiver shortage and overage reports and schedules in Excel for month­ end closing and substantiates the establishment of a receivable in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Follows up with Revenue and Station personnel regarding account balances, station activity and problem resolution.
  • Identifies, investigates, researches and resolves any Ticket Office Machine (TOM) issues and irregularities determined throughout the audit.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate' s degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field can be substituted for two years of applied experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting/auditing in a corporate, public sector, or non-profit environment, which includes the preparation of month-end work and adhering to closing schedules.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is preferred.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Previous rail Revenue Accounting experience a plus.
