ABOUT THE POSITION
The Operations Manager is a leader that plans and directs day-to-day operations of the Portland Employee Store primarily guided by the General Manager and Assistant General Manager. Executing strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, increase profitability, execute marketing and promotional directives that will increase sales and grow our existing customer base. This role is responsible for maintaining high store standards and conditions while fostering a positive team environment and developing diverse associates of all levels to best prepare them to successfully obtain their career goals as well as meet field and corporate goals.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills by assisting customers regarding product, features, benefits, availability, and resolving escalated complaints.
  • Identifies store hiring needs and conducts interviewing, hiring, training for a diverse store staff; conducting and planning employee training, development and coaching.
  • Motivates, educates, guides and develops diverse supervisors and associates to meet long range growth plans/ career paths with the store, field and general office.
  • Identifies and creates plans to enhance employee productivity and performance; tracking employee results and making suggestions for modifying goals accordingly.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels through effective replenishment, organization, shrink control and communication.
Sales:
  • Provides guidance to team on improving exceptional execution initiatives (e.g., KPI's, sales, customer service, merchandising, inventory utilization and segment accountability).
People:
  • Delivers on Columbia Sportswear Company's commitment to operational excellence by managing all areas of people operations with a strong emphasis on our recruiting, on-boarding, managing employee performance and retention processes as we continue to rapidly grow.
Freight:
  • Oversees all aspects of stockroom operations, including people processes, incoming/ outgoing freight, inventory management, audits, performance, compliance, productivity, quality, and safety goals.
  • Ensures consistent implantation of operating standards including product flow planning and execution, markdowns and seasonal promotions, marketing and in-store initiatives, and visual standards.

YOU ARE
  • A leader; providing direction and coaching to other leadership and associate staff
  • A problem solver; using judgement to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems

YOU HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree, applicable certification or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 3 years functional experience
  • No formal management experience however has experience in leading projects and people
  • Skill operating a Point of Sales (POS) system, and various software packages

JOB CONDITIONS
  • Frequently in a more active environment (i.e., requires ability to constantly move about) that can be physical or strenuous in nature (frequently adjusting/moving items weighing up to 40 lbs.), may frequently use specialized equipment, may have exposure to dust and noise
  • Occasionally requires the ability to work in place
  • Ability to clearly communicate with others
  • Availability to work a flexible retail schedule, which may change seasonally and in response to location-specific business trends or forecasts. All local, state, and federal laws are adhered to when evaluating your availability.
