The Food and Dairy Division assures a wholesome food and dairy supply by administering programs designed to protect the health and safety of Michigan citizens along with maintaining and growing the agricultural industry. The Retail Food Program Manager position is responsible for implementation and oversight of MDARD's Retail Food Safety Program, including having working knowledge of the department and division's mission, purpose and priorities, as well as knowledge of applicable laws, policy, regulations, and procedures; the ability to participate as a team player; an excellent communicator with internal and external customers; the ability to effectively manage the program and staff; and, the ability to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quantity, quality and timeliness standards for assigned work. The Retail Food Program Manager carries out administrative and operational functions under the Deputy Division Director that includes coordination of staff to conduct program accomplishments and meet department administrative requirements; function on behalf of the Deputy Division Director during their absence; and aid in program planning.
The successful candidate for this position will have broad technical knowledge of the MDARD Food Programs; be highly engaged in all aspects of the Food Programs; possess leadership and management skills and qualities (developed or emerging); hold a high attention to detail and timelines; be able to meet workload demands; and, be able to effectively communicate information and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Six years of professional food and Dairy Industry experience equivalent to a Food and/or Dairy Industry Field Scientist, including three years equivalent to a Food and/or Dairy Industry Field Scientist 12, two years equivalent to a Food and/or Dairy Industry Manager 13 or Food and/or Dairy Industry Specialist 13; or, one year equivalent to a Food and Dairy Industry Manager 14 or Food and/or Dairy Industry Specialist 14.
