Role Introduction
A Retail Design Associate is a junior project leader. You will demonstrate leadership skills in your area of expertise and will take on a leadership role in simple projects or an advisory leadership role in complex projects.
What your day will look like:
- Plays key role in project design as needed
- Actively participates and contributes to project design
- Actively collaborates and manages work of junior designers
- Manages design effort within assigned budget hours
- Identifies add services as they arise
- Collaborates on responsibility for sustainable design of project
- Participates in material and FF&E selection
- Collaborates with technical team during design process
- Participates in design conversations and charrettes
- Produces work that supports the MG2 and client brand
- Adheres to construction and fee budget with minimal oversight
We're looking for someone who:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in architecture, interior design or related field
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to deliver design solutions
- Well-rounded knowledge base
- Experience working on retail projects
- Basic understanding of merchandising needs in a store environment
- Intermediary understanding of material and FF&E pricing
- Intermediary understanding of constructability
- Strong understanding of design ordinances
- Beginning understanding of all aspects of design development and construction documentation including specifications
- Licensed or certified professional- a plus
- LEED AP or equivalent- a plus
- Has volunteered or participated in community or professional organization events – a plus
Required Competencies:
- Design
- Design sensibility and process
- A basic ability to create project FFE specifications
- A demonstrated ability to make informed decisions on FFE selection
- Developing and refining best practices
- Verbally expressing design intention and execution of primary design functions assigned
- Design research
- An intermediate level of design sensibility and process
- Assembling LEED matrix or equivalent
- Retail/Consumer facing project experience
- Hand sketching/drawing, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, InDesign, One or more of: Rhino, Vray, Grasshopper, 3DMax
- A strong understanding of design ordinances
- Design and planning
2. Technical Design
- A basic understanding of material specifications
- A basic understanding of building systems
- Code compliance and research, in collaboration with architecture team
- Consultant coordination
- Technical detailing
- A working knowledge of fabrication and construction drawing sets
- AutoCAD, Revit
3. Management
- Coordinating the work of others, including a basic understanding of project scheduling and staffing requirements
- Mentoring and training
- Client coordination, when applicable
- Budget projection collaboration
- Organizing the work of others
- A basic understanding of contract requirements
- People management
- Communicating (internally and externally)
- MS Office – basic programs

National Salary Ranges:
- Associate 3 (Minimum 5 years of Architecture experience, domestic experience preferred): $67,000-$95,000
If position is eligible for remote status, ranges may be adjusted. Acknowledging the time employees typically spend in the role, compensation is dependent on applicable years of experience and skillset.
