Share in the Care at Friendship Manor! The primary purpose of the Restorative Nurse position is to perform various resident care activities that assist in the rehabilitation process and related non-professional services as necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the resident, in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
· Upon the recommendations of the Physical Therapist Consultant, plan, develop, organize,
implement, and evaluate rehabilitation services in accordance with current rules, regulations
and guidelines that govern a long-term care facility.
· Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, report, etc., and
submitting to the Director of Nursing as required.
· Document resident’s name, rehabilitation service performed, time performed, the resident
response to the rehabilitative service and goals.
· Assist with survey preparedness
· Ensure the Administration Office receives charges for therapy rendered to resident.
· Ensure proper MDS coding and prepare for potential audits.
· Conduct competency trainings with nursing staff on safety,lifts, transfers, missions,
resident rights, etc.
· Schedule appointments for residents needing rehabilitation therapy.
· Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as
well as a calm environment throughout the department.
· Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well
as other departments within the facility to assure that services and activities can be properly
maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
· Coordinate rehabilitation services with other departments.
· Ambulate residents on the parallel bars and/or walker, cane or crutches.
· Perform range-of-motion exercises as ordered by the Physical Therapist Consultant.
· Administer whirlpool baths, apply ice bags and hot packs.
· Perform any type of prescribe non-professional, rehabilitation therapy.
· Assembles all necessary equipment and supplies for therapy sessions.
· Accompany the Physical Therapist on rounds and record recommendations.
· Assist in developing physical therapy plans for individual residents.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Must possess a current RN license through the State of Illinois.
· Must have restorative certification.
· Must possess health care or nursing home care experience.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
· Must have initiative to carry out assigned tasks with/without constant supervision.
· Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
· Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
· Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
· Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
· Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of the therapy room.
· Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as a willingness to handle difficult residents and staff.
· Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
· Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
