***This is a remote opportunity.  The preferred candidate will reside within proximity of one of the Valence Surface Technologies locations.***

The Responsible Level III supports Valence Surface Technologies non-destructive testing (NDT), engineering and quality teams. Valence performs Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle inspection to ensure safety of aerospace and defense components at ten separate facilities across the United States. This position is responsible for implementation of NAS 410 and the overall administration of the NDT qualification and certification requirements for nondestructive testing to a region(s).  It has the technical responsibility for interpreting, planning, organizing, executing, coordinating, and tracking progress of assignments. The Responsible Level III will plan, and direct NDT projects concerned with unique and diverse problems which have an important effect on major programs or products within Valence and will have responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to their field. This position requires the ability to travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, standards and planning documents and contractual documents to determine the methods and sequence of operations for the inspection of ferrous and non-ferrous parts, materials and weldments.
  • Ensure compliance with customer and government regulations for inspection departments.
  • Prepare and verify work instructions for NDT methods in compliance with customer specifications and requirements.
  • Verify set up and equipment operations for the inspection of the internal structure of ferrous and non-ferrous metal material, interpret test equipment readouts and recordings to determine acceptability.
  • Verify set up and operations of surface defect locating equipment, such as Borescope, black light and precision measuring equipment/instruments.
  • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate parts and weldments for compliance with required specifications and standards and for developing techniques and standards.
  • Responsible for training, testing and certifying NDT Level I, II, and III inspectors in the method(s) and techniques certified IAW Valence Qualification & OEM procedures.
  • Provide technical expertise, support and guidance with management, sales, engineering customers, suppliers and auditors on NDT related inspection matters, materials, processes and standard requirements.
  • Provides and improves processes by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; and collaborating with other members of management.
  • Assist in the development of new and/or innovative technology processes and procedures for new approvals.
  • Maintain compliance with Nadcap requirements.
  • Develop and streamline inspection methods and programs to promote cost reduction.
  • Calibrate and conduct non-destructive tests to quality check objects.
  • Establish techniques for the accurate examination of objects inspected, following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Perform magnetic or fluorescent and contrast dye penetrant surface inspection, including hidden surface areas.
  • Have a complete understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques, knowledge of management and planning tools, quality tools, preventive and corrective actions, and how to manage barriers to quality improvements.
  • Be able to identify, acquire and analyze data, select appropriate standard quantitative methods to manage and support business decisions and risk mitigation and corporate improvements.
  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard/risk analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.
  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different assignments; exploring opportunities to add value to the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.

Required Knowledge:  Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SPC programs, Visio.                                                                               

Experience Required: 

  • BS Degree in engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • 5-7 years relevant experience
  • NAS 410 Level III in penetrant (PT) and Level III in magnetic particle (MT) required.
  • Certified ASNT level III in penetrant (PT), Level III in magnetic particle (MT) or other methods may be required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program.
  • Aerospace manufacturing operations, chemical processing preferred.
  • 5 -7 years, Nadcap Experience required.

Compensation Range:  $96,600-$137,550 (DOE)
