Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS), Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is recruiting for two (2) Respiratory Therapist (RT)-Advanced positions. CWC provides short-term and long-term residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the North side of Madison. CWC also has a 24/7 fitness center, free parking, and is on the Madison Metro bus route.

One position will work 6:00 am – 6:30 pm and one position will work 6:00 pm – 6:30 am. Both positions will be required to work every other weekend.

Position Summary


As a RT-Advanced, you will provide coordination of RT services to community clients. Position responsibilities include:

  • developing daily evaluation and treatment schedule for CWC residents and community clients;
  • developing, modifying, and implementing respiratory therapy policies and procedures according to CWC and professional standards and in coordination with other health care professions;
  • coordinating pulmonary clinics;
  • coordinating teaching responsibilities for RT staff and affiliates, CWC health care staff, and community staff, in the application of respiratory treatments, respiratory equipment, tracheostomy care and change, and respiratory emergency procedures;
  • monitoring of the work of RT affiliates, limited term employee (LTEs), and permanent RT staff;
  • assisting with the research, decision making and coordination of the purchase or rental, maintenance, repair, and disposition of RT equipment for CWC residents and community clients;
  • coordinating the training of staff including community staff in the use of new equipment;
  • assisting with budget preparations;
  • establishing departmental goals; a
  • providing specialized Respiratory Services to CWC residents and community clients who are cognitively and developmentally disabled or have experienced traumatic injuries or environmental insults.

Salary Information


The starting pay is between $37.00 and $41.54 per hour (approximately $77,000-$86,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions in pay schedule and range 06/63.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Be certified as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Wisconsin at the time of application.
  • Experience training and monitoring RT staff.
  • Experience developing staffing schedules.
  • Experience or education with RT evaluation and treatment approaches.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience or education with the unique medical challenges of the developmentally disabled and critically ill client (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, apnea, acute and chronic asthma, aspiration pneumonia, obstructive airway, post-operative complications, Cystic Fibrosis, etc.).
  • Experience researching, determining and coordinating the purchase or rental, maintenance, repair and disposition of RT equipment.
  • Experience or education in developing teaching materials.
