YOU will support the community of Hampton in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of resilience efforts geared toward effectively and proactively managing a wide array of community risks with potentially far-reaching impacts to our community's economic, cultural and environmental health.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Urban Design, Emergency Management, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, sustainability based economic development, urban or regional planning, emergency preparedness or environmental and/or sustainability programs with a minimum of three (3) years at a senior staff level.
  • Program management and/or project management experience including design, delivery, execution and evaluation of complex processes is required.
  • Federal, state or local government experience is preferred.
  • Coastal flooding mitigation and resiliency experience preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to an offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Extensive contact with the City Manager's staff, City Council, City Department Heads and employees, citizens and a variety of federal, state and local agencies, organizations, boards and commissions.
  • Requires the ability to function as a team member and must be adaptable to performing effectively under moderate to high levels of stress.
  • May require working non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Requires some local travel.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
