Residential Living Advisor

Position Title: Residential Living Advisor

FLSA: Non-Exempt $ 20.00 per hour

Location: Springdale Job Corps Center

Department: Residential Living

The Residential Living Advisor position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties: The Residential Living Advisor provides safe, supportive and predictable environment in dormitory supervision of Job Corps in their daily activities, monitoring their progress in attaining performance contract goals and objectives and utilizing behavior management and intentional and consistent practices. Conducts dormitory operations in accordance to Center operating policy and procedures and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Description of Duties:

• Assist students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification and acting as a mentor.
• Ensure that students meet required schedule, waking on time and being on time for school or work assignment.
• Ensure that students are adequately prepared for the training day.
• Provide informal counseling related to stress management, personal problems, emergency or home situations, etc., with students, and provides insight into responsible behavior and attitudes.
• Prepare reports, forms, and annotates logs to ensure accurate documentation of daily observations of student’s progress, performance, behavior and attitudes, communication information, and references to critical information.
• Serves as a channel of communication between management staff and students.
• Facilitate small group discussions in life skills, peer mediation, conflict resolution, etc.
• Perform and document regular perimeter checks of dorm and outside perimeter to ensure safety and security.
• Facilitates weekly dorm meetings which include accountability checks.
• Ensure all equipment and facilities are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, company and DOL standards.
• Create a warm/welcoming atmosphere for students, including encouragement to personalize the living environment.
• Ensure a work environment that provides an equal opportunity for all.

Monitors Student’s Behavior: Ensures proper conduct of students in all areas. Creates methods and programs to motivate constructive student behavior.

Develops Students: Establishes high level of mutual trust and support with others. Expresses positive expectations of others, even in difficult situations. Creates a learning atmosphere. Reassures and encourages performance improvement. Provides timely coaching. Identifies successes and areas of improvement. Participates in center committees.
