JOB SUMMARY:

The Resident Sitter is guided by the Assistant Director of Nursing Services or his/her designee. He/she provides assistance to the Director in all assigned phases of the department. Duties within the job description are outlined and apply to both group and personally assigned responsibilities. A Resident Sitter is required to follow all instructions as outlined in the job description. He/she will carry out all responsibilities as outlined.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Typically at least 1 years’ experience in the Health Care field.
  2. The ability to relate to long-term care individual’s needs.
  3. The ability to carry out assigned tasks to completion.
  4. Good communication skills; must understand English; written, oral and listening.
  5. Must be able to observe and demonstrate proper safety and sanitary techniques.
  6. Must be a team player, able to work independently, and with a wide variety of individuals.
  7. Maintains a responsible and positive attitude.
  8. Good organizational skills.
  9. Must be able to multitask.

DEPENDABILITY:

  1. Maintains a good attendance record.
  2. Flexible about scheduling which includes holidays, weekends, and night as assigned by the Administrator or ADNS or their designee.
  3. Accepts and utilizes constructive criticism.
  4. Attends mandatory in-services.
  5. Performs duties reflective of assigned work scheduled hours.
  6. Name badge will be worn at all times while in the building.
  7. Maintains a neat and clean appearance at all times.
  8. Shoes should be leather or fabric, closed toe and supportive with non-skid soles. No sandals, flip-flops or Crocs. Footwear should not put the wearer at risk for injury.
  9. No blue jeans, T-shirts or gym-like attire, unless as designated by the Owner or Administrator.
  10. Facial hair must be kept neat and groomed at all times.
  11. Jewelry and nail length must not interfere with performance of job duties as per facility policy, i.e., no dangling jewelry.
  12. Clothing should be neither tight nor excessively baggy.
  13. Perfumes should be avoided or kept at a minimum so as not to offend others.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF DAILY FUNCTIONING:

  1. Provides 1 to 1 monitoring for our Residents
  2. Monitor and detect changes in the condition of Residents.
  3. Assist in passing trays. Open containers, cut up food, butter bread, set up coffee/tea following Facility infection control protocols and Dining Room protocol.
  4. Supervising Residents, alerting nurses and other healthcare professionals when needed, and providing emotional support to Residents. Clean tables when feeding has been completed. Make sure the Dining Room area is left clean.
  5. Works with a minimum of supervision. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, co-workers, support agencies and outside agencies.
  6. Must be able to observe, listen and communicate effectively with residents and co-workers.
  7. He/she must treat all residents and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  8. Upholds facility policies and Mission Statement as well as the Resident’s Bill of Rights.
  9. Abides by the facility’s HIPAA regulations and holds all resident information confidential.
  10. Understands the policies and responsibilities concerning infection control, safety, accident and fire prevention.
  11. Responds to all emergencies and codes; Code Red (fire), Code D (disaster), Code G (armed intruder), and Code Green (facility manpower required), as well as resident alarms in room, bathroom, bed and wheelchair.
  12. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile residents.
  13. He/she demonstrates awareness of safety issues and maintains a safe environment throughout the facility.
  14. Discuss any problems, needs or concerns which may arise with the ADNS, Nursing Supervisor and/or the Administrator.
  15. Attends In-service education classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.
