At Summer Discovery, we all have something special in common – we are obsessed with summer. We work our hearts out from September through May for what summer brings – students and staff in June, July & August.
Summer Discovery is the largest provider of pre-college, enrichment, and gifted summer programs and experiences for students from grades one through twelve. We offer students across the globe an unrivaled summer experience with access to world-class academics, interactive enrichment courses, immersive travel adventures, and residential life experiences at over 15 prestigious college campuses.
- Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Staff Manual.
- Attends and participates in virtual orientation programs as scheduled prior to your campus arrival and in person orientation prior to the students arrival.
- Supervises daily and weekend schedule of academic, recreational, and social interactions with students.
- Responds to all emergencies and assists in the needs of the program as directed.
- Coordinates and communicates student medical needs and emergencies with the Nurse and residential staff.
- Escort students to medical facilities, including Emergency Room visits, as assigned.
- Actively responsible for the safety and well-being of a group of students, under the direction of the leadership team and Head RC.
- Executes residential life operations and creates a harmonious residential experience shared by all in their assigned residence hall.
- Participates in academic, recreational, and social activities, as requested.
- Actively participates in assigned daily responsibilities; including, but not limited to: daily staff meetings, office coverage and administration, town duty, dorm duty, late-night duty, and doctor duty.
- Serves as a positive role model for the students and staff in the program.
- Assists students in solving academic and socio-emotional problems related to the program, including, supervision at activities, tutoring, insights into college success, homesickness, and social interactions.
- Seeks guidance and assistance from leadership admin team regarding student related concerns (academic, recreational, emotional) and follows through on communication as needed.
- Resolves student and residential facility problems proactively and quickly
- Contributes programming and activity ideas to the Programming Coordinator.
- Supervise off-campus trips and on-campus activities, as assigned.
- Eats meals with students and participates in their social interactions as a mentor.
- Responsible for assigned evening and weekend duties as scheduled.
- Adheres to the policies of Summer Discovery: including, but not limited to: Maintains staff curfew, no alcohol consumption on campus, zero tolerance of inappropriate sexual conduct, no illegal use of drugs, disorderly behavior, and avoids use of all profanity.

- Conduct self in an exemplary manner through leadership, honesty, integrity, and holds self to a high standard of behavior.
- Use good judgment in decision making, problem-solving, and mentoring children/young adults.
- Demonstrate a friendly, helpful, and positive attitude, and a commitment to working with the students.
- Ability to work with various office equipment including, but not limited to: office phones, cell phones, computers, recreational equipment, photo copiers
- Good physical and mental health – staff must possess the ability to actively participate in all elements of the program's experience.
- Monitor the health and safety of others by scanning large areas at both night and during the day.
- Ability to live and work potentially without air conditioning during summer months on campus.
- Maintain constant contact with others by interacting with staff and students and within residential living situations and campus facilities.
- This position consists of constant movement throughout the assigned campus while supervising students to/from all destinations.
- This position is required to reside on campus throughout the entirety of the program.
- This position is required to attend a paid staff orientation five (5) days before the start of the assigned program.
- This position will have 1 day off for every 2 weeks on campus.
- This position requires a commitment to our dynamic workday, which requires flexibility and the ability to adjust schedules as needed. Summer Discovery requires varied work hours, as we are a residential community.
- Must be at least 20 years old by the start of the program (21 years old for some specific locations)
- Have completed or currently working on a 4-year university degree
- Experience working with students in an academic, tutoring, mentoring, and/or recreational capacity.
- Clear understanding of following a daily schedule with limited time off
- Certified in First Aid/CPR preferred.
