Under the supervision of the East End Parks Supervisor, this position maintains a high standard of customer service for renters of Spring Grove Park picnic building and trellis area. The Reservation Specialist will ensure that the site has been prepped and is ready for each user group and will be present for the duration of a wedding ceremony time period when needed. This position also schedules site tours for potential guests at Spring Grove Park, Hager Park and Grand River Park on an as-needed basis.
This is a seasonal, non-benefited position working up to 40 hours per week reporting to Spring Grove Park. Must be available for day, evening, weekend, and holiday work hours. The position would start early May 2024 and work until early September 2024 (Labor Day). The ideal candidate will have the ability to interact positively and constructively with the general public and co-workers, have a willingness to learn, and proven dependability. No prior experience is necessary.
Essential Job Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  1. Assists in all areas of park operations surrounding the reservation facilities and their associated grounds.
  2. Meets with potential renters and shows the facilities.
  3. Locks and unlocks the facilities as needed and is responsible for the keys to those buildings.
  4. Participates in the setup and cleanup of rental facilities including moving tables and chairs, sweeping, mopping, and other janitorial duties.
  5. Attends to the needs of renters before, during, and after the rental period.
  6. Enforces and performs work in accordance with established standards and rules.
  7. Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse and inclusive workplace.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Work or volunteer experience in customer service.
Additional Requirements and Information
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  1. Experience in public relations, rule enforcement and problem solving.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  3. Requires exceptional organizational skills to track multiple reservations and complex details associated with each.
  4. Availability during the prime rental periods, which include weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
  5. Ability and knowledge to quickly solve minor problems such as shutting off water to a leaking fixture, resetting a breaker, or re-lighting a pilot light.
  6. Ability to interact positively and professionally with other Parks and Recreation staff, children, and the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with widely divergent communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
  1. Must possess physical strength, agility and stamina. Frequent standing, bending and stooping may be required.
  2. Must have sufficient unassisted mobility to access all areas of parks facility and grounds to conduct inspections, verify completion of work and correct unsafe conditions.
  3. Must have sufficient manual strength and dexterity to operate manual and power tools commonly used in janitorial trade.
  4. Must be able to lift and move equipment (such as tables and chairs) and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without mechanical or other assistance.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Michigan driver's license and ability to operate a county vehicle. Must be insurable to operate a vehicle under the County's current automobile insurance policy. Must have reliable transportation to report to various park sites and commute between if needed.
Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee may be exposed to electrical hazards, noxious fumes, dust, dirt, and other airborne particulates, inclement weather including extreme temperatures, wind, rain, or snow, cleaning compounds, solvents, detergent, noise and other hazards.
