Job Summary:
Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science (CDIS)
Housed within the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM), CDIS serves as the nexus for dissemination and implementation activities within the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. CDIS aims to connect public health research and practice by integrating strategies for both patient-focused dissemination and provider- and organization-focused implementation that can be used across diverse service settings and conditions. CDIS is an interdisciplinary, team science-oriented, dynamic research community that includes members across professional levels, including staff, trainees, and faculty.
Dr. Amelia Van Pelt is seeking a Research Study Coordinator to assist on a study funded by a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ending the HIV Epidemic Supplement. In partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health, the research aims to crowdsource and develop strategies for the implementation of long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) for HIV prevention for men who have sex with men in Chicago. Specifically, the research will involve the facilitation of an innovation tournament to crowdsource innovative ideas to implement CAB-LA into integrated care settings from target users. Utilizing implementation science approaches, these ideas will be operationalized into concrete implementation strategies.
The Research Study Coordinator will work directly under the supervision of Project Director, Dr. Van Pelt. Specific responsibilities may include:
• Assisting with IRB documentation and compliance
• Assisting with communication to all investigators, research partners, and study participants
• Assisting with meeting preparation and leading minutes
• Assisting with participant recruitment
• Maintaining research data and performing regular data quality checks
• Processing participant payments
• Assisting with data cleaning and analysis
• Assisting with research dissemination (e.g., manuscript preparation)
The Research Study Coordinator will be expected to work collaboratively, including leading the planning and execution of activities to ensure achievement of study deadlines. As such, the Research Study Coordinator must have impeccable organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as strong attention to details. All applicants must be able to demonstrate familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, statistical software, and web-based applications. In addition, Spanish-speaking skills will be strongly preferred.
The Research Study Coordinator will be expected to work in the office three days per week, in line with the rest of the CDIS community.
Coordinates collection, analysis, processing & reporting of data & assists Principal Investigator (PI) in judging the validity of test data obtained in regard to biomedical &/or social-behavioral Research Study(ies) of limited complexity involving co-investigators, multiple campuses &/or universities. Completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
Principal Accountabilities:
Technical
• Participates in the planning & conduct of Research Study including participant recruitment and retention.
• Obtains informed consent
• Collects, compiles, tabulates & processes responses.
• Gathers information.
Administration
• Collects, records, reviews & summarizes research data.
• Prepares reports for investigators and sponsors on recruitment status and other pertinent study data.
• Writes portions of grant applications & co-author scientific papers.
Finance
• May process payments for research participants per study protocol.
• Coordinates reimbursements for expert panel travel, consultant pay, additional gift card orders, etc. & ensure costs remain within allotted grant budget.
Supervision
• May act as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' Research Study or other relevant experience required; OR
• Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
• Strong organizational, written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
• At least 2 years of research experience, such as experience with: participant recruitment and enrollment, quantitative and/or qualitative data collection, coordinating with various members of a study team (e.g., research staff, trainees, and investigators), maintaining research data, or assisting with IRB documentation and compliance.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
• Spanish-speaking skills.
• Knowledge of or interest in public health, implementation science, HIV, health equity, and/or community-engaged research.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $19.31 to $27.16 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
