Research & Special Collections Librarian

Reporting to the Director of Collections & Archives, the Research & Special Collections Librarian (Librarian) collaborates with Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation staff, students, and scholars to provide access to the library and special collection as well as research and reference support for programming, exhibitions, presentations, publications, and the Taliesin Institute. The Librarian oversees the preservation and organization of primary and secondary materials and manages all library services including cataloging, acquisitions, and the development of both physical and online collections. The position encourages inquiry and critical thinking by providing training in the availability and use of library resources and maintains information tools that advance the work of Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
Essential Functions:

• Manages library services and ensures that library materials are current, easily accessible, and available.
• Oversees the processing and cataloging of library and special collection materials including creating original bibliographic records, cataloging, re-housing, authority control, changing existing records as needed, and processing materials.
• Provides access to special and archival collections by creating finding aids, collection-level records, and metadata descriptions.
• Provides support to other Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation departments through research and reference requests.
• Performs reference service in person, by mail, virtually, or by telephone; assists in locating reference sources or performs searches of databases, indexes, abstracts, directories, and related sources or directs patrons to other sources of requested information such as government agencies or other library systems.
• Demonstrates the use of library catalogs, databases, e-resources, and other user aids and trains users in the availability and use of library resources.
• Utilizes best professional standards in the development and recommendation of policies and procedures.
• Works with the registrar to coordinate care and access to archival material in both the library and archive.
• Supervises the work of interns and volunteers.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position is a full-time exempt (salaried) position with a target starting rate of $50,000/year, plus comprehensive benefits including a paid-time-off package. Requirements

• Master's degree from an American Library Association-accredited library program in Library Science, Librarianship, or Library and Information Studies.
• Knowledge of principles of professional library work, including methods, practices and techniques of library classification, cataloging, materials selection, reference, bibliographical, and circulation systems.
• Knowledge of recognized archives standards (DACS, EAD, Dublin Core) and experience in processing archival collections.
• Knowledge of a wide variety of collections formats found in Special Collections and archives, including manuscript collections, institutional records, digital holdings, and rare books.
• Knowledge of Open Educational Resources.
• Demonstrated understanding of best practices that advance research information literacies.
• Ability to analyze, implement, and adapt to evolving library services and technologies.
• Strong service orientation with commitment to and experience with building alliances with all levels of a learning community.
• Comfortability with operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software and in navigating library catalogs.
• Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to understand and follow departmental policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years of relevant library and/or Special Collections experience.
• Experience supporting research needs in architecture and design disciplines.
• Familiarity with Frank Lloyd Wright and the mission of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
