Research Scientist, Chromatography

Objectives:

Entry to mid-level analytical chemistry position with expertise in liquid and gas chromatography. The applicant will be responsible for the testing of medical devices, stability samples and validation samples using existing analytical chromatography methods and wet chemistry techniques. This position is part of the R&D team with responsibility for product characterization for biocompatibility and product improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for conducting, developing and executing tests and experiments using both established chromatographic methods and newly developed/novel techniques.
• Prepare written test strategies, protocols, schedule and perform tests, analyze test results, and prepare final reports.
• Independently operate analytical instruments such as an HPLC, GC, Mass-spectrometer, etc. to generate data.
• Participate in and support product and plant root-cause investigations on an as needed basis.
• Record and report all lab data as per approved procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Analyze and critique results, noting significant deviations from the expected results.
• Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.
• Learn and understand new experimental techniques with a curiosity to apply them for unique project/assignment requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the laboratory.
• Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing company policies, procedures, current Good Manufacturing Practices, and health and safety requirements.
• Perform any other assigned task and duties.

Requirements:

• BA in Chemistry or related field.
• Knowledge of various chromatographic techniques including liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.
• Strong writing skills.
• Excellent team player with good organizational, interpersonal and communications skills.
• Knowledge of ISO 10993 standards a plus.
• 0-5 or more years' experience in chromatography.
• Experience with bio-medical research and development, and biocompatibility of medical devices a plus.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State.  Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  For New York State, the range of salary for this role is $52,000 to $78,000.
