Duties: Drive insurance backed performance guarantee solutions for machine learning based services. Quantify uncertainty in machine learning based services, including writing pricing models in R, Python or similar programming languages to simulate the loss distribution of the financial instruments to be created. Review implementations of machine learning systems and the limitations of specific models. Engage with clients and colleagues in deal teams to assess, model, and underwrite the risks of predictions of machine learning systems being off compared to actual outcomes. Conduct research and publish selected results in academic journals and conferences, like ICML, together with other Research Scientists. Build relationships with important research institutions.
Requirements: PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science or closely related quantitative fields plus 1 year of relevant research experience in the field of machine learning or practical experience in assessing technical implementation of machine learning based models of start-ups on behalf of Venture Capital firms or other entities. Candidate's prior experience must include: Understanding of modern machine learning techniques, best practices in their implementation at scale and performance evaluation; Understanding of conformal prediction techniques, sampling theory, bootstrapping and other approaches and their limitations around confidence interval estimations for different machine learning models; Proficiency in Python, R or comparable programming languages; and project management. Position requires 10-15% domestic/international travel. May telecommute but must have ability to report to New York, NY office three (3) times per week.
