Duration: Long Term Assignment
Location: Philadelphia, PA 19104

Job Summary:

This role administers, monitors and provides advanced support to research safety programs and maintains a safe work environment for all research staff by ensuring the Research Institute maintains compliance with regulatory standards.
This includes industrial / chemical hygiene safety, biological safety, air monitoring, laboratory safety, hazardous materials, ergonomics, and emergency response.
Job Functions:
Oversee research safety programs and escalate and resolve any issues.
Lead regular investigations, surveys, risk assessments, audits and data collection.
Respond to concerns regarding safety and health, and complete incident investigations.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for compliance and improvement.
Implement and track safety data and support related database systems.
Prepares, reviews and revises safety information including web content.
Manage related equipment, inventories and systems.
Facilitate and participate in related safety response programs including laboratory, hazardous materials, bio-response, and on-call programs in the research environment..
Create and deliver safety trainings as needed and ensure related compliance
 
Skills:
Intermediate knowledgeable of NFPA codes
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 24 hours training by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or within 180 days of placement into position
Advanced knowledge of safety guidelines / regulations including from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Association Advancing Occupational and Environmental Health (ACGIH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)
Basic proficiency with personal protective equipment
Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Excellent critical thinking / problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent time management skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to gather, analyze and make recommendations/decisions based on data
Ability to convey complex or technical information in an easy-to-understand manner
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
Ability to be on-call to trouble shoot and resolve problems
Ability to influence others to accomplish tasks outside of the direct span of control
 
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Work Experience:
At least 5 years of previous safety experience
