This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.
Dental Research Administration (DRA) at TUSDM is the main research structure for all basic science and clinical
projects at the Dental School. DRA is the liaison to the Office of the Vice Provost, Sponsored Accounting, IRB,
IACUC, CMS, Biosafety and all other offices responsible for administering research on the Tufts Health Sciences
Campus. Housing several research labs including the Gavel Center for Restorative Dental Research which is
endowed from Dr. J. Murray Gavel. DRA at TUSDM defines and executes the research goals and mission of Tufts
University School of Dental Medicine.
The Research Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing comprehensive oral hygiene care to research subjects of
the TUSDM. This includes providing screening, charting, examinations, preventive care including scaling, root
planing, nutritional and plaque control counseling, prophylaxis, fluoride, and scheduling/recall for study visits.
The position is also responsible for coordinating, recruiting and scheduling research subjects as required by study
specific protocols and according to GCP, IRB and FDA requirements. The position is also required to maintain
study records and communicate with study sponsors as needed
Job Scope:
- Perform preventive and therapeutic treatments including prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, curettage,
applying fluoride, and taking and developing diagnostic quality radiographs as required by study specific
protocols. - Must be familiar with all dental procedures such as: General Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, Implants, Prosthodontics, Endodontics and Periodontology. - Write compliant, professional and complete chart progress notes in dental and research records for
treatment documentation. - Monitor dental supply and equipment inventory and process order requests for research clinic.
- Convey a professional appearance and set a positive tone in the research clinic.
- All other duties as required.
Basic Requirements:
- 1-3 years related experience.
- Associates Degree.
- MA Dental Hygiene License or MA Dentist License.
- Familiarity with dental software, email and Microsoft Word applications.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA/BS
- Bachelor's degree preferred with 3-5 years related experience.
- The successful candidate must be a team-player and must be organized, self-motivated, and must manage their time efficiently.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse provider, team, and patient population.
