JOB TITLE: Research Coordinator
SUPERVISOR: Director of Research
This job description provides a general outline of the duties and qualifications of the position. Other duties may be assigned, and the description may change at any time.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Research, this role functions as a member of KHSC-KansasCOM research department to provide support for KHSC-KansasCOM faculty and student researchers, advise students in research and research ethics, and coordinate the operations among the institutional review board, academic affairs, the Kansas Education and Research Network (KERN), and the Research Department. This position is responsible for independently performing delegated tasks and procedures involving human subject research, including coordination of regulatory activities and aspects of collection and management of data for complex research protocols. This position has an active role in sponsored research activities, including coordination of the pre-award and post-award aspects of the research enterprise.
Administration
  • Coordinates all activities related to research, including sponsored projects at KHSC-KansasCOM and KERN.
  • Assists with the management of the KERN portal.
  • Supports the KERN membership and activities.
  • Engages in pre-and-post award sponsored research activities.
  • Makes decisions regarding organizational aspects, logistics, activities, and contracts related to research programs and/or study protocols.
  • Maintains a database of current and potential research projects.
  • Coordinates matching of student researchers to project opportunities.
  • Facilitates meetings and events.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences.

IRB
  • Coordinates all activities related to the IRB.
  • Serves as an IRB analyst.
  • Serves as an administrator and trainer for the Cayuse and CITI research platforms.

Study Protocols
  • Monitors adherence to all IRB-approved study protocols, including all regulatory requirements appropriate to federal, local, and institutional guidelines.
  • Monitors consent of research participants in accordance with the IRB policies.
  • Monitors all applicable regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Identifies and resolves issues with protocol compliance.

Teaching and Learning
  • For appropriately qualified candidates, this position may include the education, training, and mentorship of students and the provision of statistical support for research projects.

Other
  • Fosters a positive culture among the students, faculty, and KHSC-KansasCOM staff.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related discipline (e.g. scientific or health related field, research administration, business administration, law, or public administration).
  • Three years of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Graduate or professional degree in research administration, business administration, math/biostatistics, law, or public administration.
  • Certification through Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Society of Clinical Research Association (SOCRA) as a Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP) or equivalent.
  • Experience in clinical research, higher education, or medical education.
  • Medical terminology proficiency and/or experience in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in teaching foundational concepts in biostatistics.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring students.

KEY COMPETENCIES:
  • Work effectively in a team setting with physicians, osteopathic medical students, biomedical scientists, healthcare professionals, and others.
  • Superior communication skills in order to effectively interface with stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously while working independently using initiative and good judgment.
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Preferred:
    • Strong knowledge base in biostatistics.
    • Ability to educate investigators, students, and stakeholders regarding biostatistics.
